Job summary

This post is for 0.6 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist working within the Kentish Town Core Team, level 3 Psychosis Pathway as work progresses with the transformation of community mental health services in line with the NHS Long Term plan.

Main duties of the job

General Expectations of a Consultant Psychiatrist employed with North London NHS Foundation Trust include

o To work within the MDT promoting respect for all professional groups and focusing upon coherent and integrated teamwork.

o To be Section 12(2) approved and have approved clinician status and participate in the Trust-wide Section 12 daytime rota.

o To provide second opinions for Consultant colleagues if requested.

o To keep up with administration and note-keeping on the electronic patient record system in a timely manner, including letters to GPs, Dialog+ and risk assessments.

o To assist with Serious Incident investigations and complaints if requested.

o To keep up-to-date with mandatory training.

o To attend and participate in Consultants' and Management meetings to keep informed of service issues and developments.

o Other management/clinical supporting activity (to be negotiated as required by the Trust.)

Job description Job responsibilities

This post is for 0.6 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist working within the Kentish Town Core Team, level 3 Psychosis Pathway as work progresses with the transformation of community mental health services in line with the NHS Long Term plan.

The post is a substantive post available as soon as possible, the post is available as the current consultant is retiring.

The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team which includes both statutory and voluntary sector roles and provides holistic care to patients in a primary care setting aligned to the Kentish Town Primary Care Networks.

It is anticipated that a 1.0 WTE post holders will conduct 4-5 assessments per week pro rata and hold a short-term caseload of up to 80-100 patients pro rata at any one time with GPs remaining as main case holders within this collaborative model. As a 6PA post the case numbers would be expected to be proportionate.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications/Registration Essential

Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice. Must be on the specialist register or within 6 months of gaining a Certificate of Completion of Training Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent higher qualification in psychiatry Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility) - qualifies to act as a Responsible Clinician Registered with Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD programme and in good standing

Other relevant post-graduate qualification Trained as an Educational Supervisor for doctors in training Training as a Consultant mentor

Knowledge & Experience Essential

Knowledge and observance of the requirements and duties of a doctor laid down by the GMC in Good Medical Practice. Clinical knowledge of the full range mental disorders. Experience in the assessment of complex clinical cases involving severe and enduring mental illness, specifically those with complex mood anxiety & trauma presentations/disorders and significant risk histories and the ability to assertively engage and manage such cases. Expertise in a comprehensive range of evidence based interventions including psychological therapies and pharmacological treatments Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding practices Experience of community psychiatry and interest and experience of working with individuals with severe mood anxiety & trauma presentations/disorders. Experience in work place based assessments of doctors in training Knowledge of clinical commissioning and external organisations that interface with an NHS Trust. Experience in organising and chairing meetings. Good understanding of Trust governance structures, especially clinical governance An understanding of the role of research within the wider service Willingness to participate in research as appropriate and within the context of the duties of the post

Experience in teaching small and large groups Experience of service development. Experience in developing policies and protocols.

Skills & Abilities Essential

Ability to be flexible and adaptable to change. Ability to effectively communicate ideas and influence others. Good knowledge of and ability to use both spoken and written English Ability to organise workload and manage time and delegate responsibility where appropriate Ability to practise as an independent Consultant Psychiatrist. Thoroughness and attention to detail in clinical matters Sensitivity to needs of all patients and carers. Sensitivity and awareness in clients and staff from different cultures, ethnicities, gender and sexual orientations. Teaching and supervision skills for undergraduate medical students, doctors in training and multi-professional staff Ability to work in a team environment and to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multidisciplinary basis with all levels of staff. Ability to take on the role and responsibilities of the clinical lead Experience in undertaking clinical audit, investigating serious incidents and handling complaints

A special interest or willingness to develop one in an area which helps to meet the needs of the Trust Experience in successfully delivering research projects
