An exciting opportunity has arisen within our ESR & Pay Services Team for a Payroll Officer to join our friendly and customer-focused team.
We are looking for a motivated individual with payroll experience to support the delivery of an accurate and timely payroll service. You will manage your own allocated section of the payroll, provide advice and guidance on payroll-related matters, and work closely with managers, employees and external organisations to resolve queries.
This role offers hybrid working, combining home and office-based working, with attendance required for training, meetings and service delivery needs.
The successful candidate will have previous payroll experience, excellent communication and customer service skills, and the ability to work accurately under pressure to meet deadlines. Experience of computerised payroll systems is essential, and experience of NHS payroll, ESR and NHS Pension Scheme processes would be advantageous.
Applicants should ideally hold an NVQ Level 4 qualification in Payroll Administration (or equivalent). However, candidates with substantial payroll experience and the ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills are strongly encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job
Managing a designated payroll allocation.
Maintaining accurate payroll and ESR records.
Providing payroll advice and support.
Ensuring compliance with payroll legislation, NHS Terms and Conditions, and Trust policies.

Qualifications Essential
GCSE English Language and Maths or equivalent qualification or experience. Understanding of payroll / pensions procedures acquired through formal training to NVQ Level 4 / or equivalent demonstrable experience
Desirable
CIPP Professional payroll qualification.
Experience Essential
NHS ESR payroll experience Experience of working in a customer service environment. Experience of using Microsoft Office packages including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Desirable
Experience of developing office / administration procedures. Experience of producing reports and data through Excel including the use of pivot tables, formulae and functions.
Skills Essential
Ability to analyse complex data and to present this in a meaningful manner to the end user. Advanced computing / keyboard skills. Effective use of ESR and Microsoft office products i.e. Work, Excel, Outlook. Ability to carry out complex calculations and determine action to be taken Good interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally. Good customer service skills. Ability to prioritise and work in an organised and accurate manner within deadlines.
Knowledge Essential
Detailed understanding of payroll cycles, responsibilities and processes. Detailed understanding of Data Protection and Information Governance issues.
