POSITION OVERVIEW Children’s Minnesota is seeking a compassionate Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our collaborative behavioral health team. In this role, you will provide high-quality, acute psychiatric care through daily inpatient rounding and comprehensive consultation-liaison services across medical floors, the Emergency Department (ED), and our dedicated EmPATH space. This position offers an excellent work-life balance with a highly favorable, infrequent weekend call rotation. For qualified and interested candidates, and for qualified candidates, an immediate or trackable executive leadership opportunity (e.g., Medical Director) to help shape our clinical programs, drive clinical quality improvement, and mentor an exceptional multidisciplinary staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Inpatient Care: Conduct daily weekday rounding, admissions, and acute psychiatric evaluations for children and adolescents on our acute inpatient unit. Consultation Services: Provide timely, high-quality psychiatric consultations and stabilization strategies for pediatric patients admitted to inpatient medical units, surgical floors, the Emergency Department (ED), and the specialized EmPATH space. On-Call & Coverage: Participate in a highly sustainable, well-structured on-call framework with an additional separate compensation stipend. o Weekend Rotation: Scheduled roughly 1 out of every 8 weekends (approximately 6 times per calendar year). o Perform in-person rounds on both Saturday and Sunday for the inpatient psychiatric unit, ensuring all unit patients are seen, and notes are authored at least once over the weekend (prioritizing admissions, discharges, and defined acute needs). o Support weekend coverage for consults across the medical units, ED, and EmPATH space, managed primarily through an efficient phone-consultation workflow to maintain organizational flexibility. Treatment Collaboration: Lead a multidisciplinary care team of advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, and therapists to design comprehensive stabilization and safe discharge plans.
Clinical Leadership (Optional/Trackable) .15 FTE leadership/medical director track - provide executive clinical oversight, direct quality improvement initiatives, and participate in administrative committee meetings if stepping into the 0.15 FTE leadership/medical director track.
· Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited school of medicine. · Training: Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited General Psychiatry Residency and a Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship. · Licensure: Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), with an active Minnesota state medical license (or immediate eligibility to obtain one). · Leadership Track Requirement: A minimum of 5 years of post-fellowship clinical experience is required to be considered for immediate leadership or medical directorship roles.
