Department Summary: The System Engineering Analytics Department combines systems engineering and data analytics to address challenging problems facing the U.S. government. Interns work with experienced data professionals to help develop data analytic pipelines, evaluate analytical models, and communicate findings that support government sponsor decisions.
Job Responsibilities:
• Help translate government sponsor challenges into analytical questions and testable hypotheses with guidance from experienced data scientists. • Prepare, clean, combine, and analyze datasets to support end-to-end data analytic pipelines. • Assist with developing, testing, and evaluating statistical and machine learning models for real-world problems. • Create visualizations and dashboards that communicate analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences. • Collaborate with technical teams to document methods, code, and results and contribute to project reports and presentation.
Basic Qualifications:
• Sustained excellence in academic performance. • Must be a student enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related field, and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship. • Familiarity with a programming or technical computing language such as Python or R, demonstrated through coursework or projects. • Familiarity with data preparation, basic statistical analysis, and data visualization through coursework or projects. • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI U.S Government issued Security Clearance. Per the U.S. Government’s eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance. • This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated interest in serving the public and applying data analytics to real-world problems. • Coursework or project experience in statistical modeling, machine learning, or working with AI models. • Experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau, QuickSight, or Power BI. • Academic or project experience working with databases, SQL, or shared software development environments using Git. • Ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical concepts and analytical findings clearly.
