About this role

Job Title: Engineering Test TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Engineering Test Technician supports vehicle testing, instrumentation, data collection, troubleshooting, and validation activities for advanced automotive technologies. You will work closely with engineers and test teams to prepare and configure test vehicles, install and operate instrumentation and data acquisition systems, execute validation procedures, and accurately document test results. This role is ideal for a hands-on technician with experience in vehicle electrical systems, sensors, CAN tools, and vehicle testing environments who enjoys working with cutting-edge automotive systems. Responsibilities • Install and configure sensors, instrumentation, cameras, electronic control units (ECUs), and data acquisition equipment on test vehicles. • Support vehicle preparation, setup, and teardown activities for engineering validation programs. • Execute vehicle testing and validation procedures while collecting accurate performance and system data. • Operate and monitor testing and data acquisition equipment during vehicle tests to ensure reliable data capture. • Troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, and vehicle-related issues that arise during testing. • Capture and analyze CAN data using data logging and diagnostic tools. • Perform thorough vehicle inspections before and after testing activities to identify any issues or changes. • Document observations, defects, test results, and technical findings in a clear and organized manner for engineering review. • Assist engineers with root cause investigations and resolution of technical issues discovered during testing. • Support testing of advanced vehicle systems, including emerging automotive technologies such as ADAS, active safety, and autonomous or connected vehicle features. • Maintain testing equipment, manage instrumentation inventory, and keep calibration records up to date. Essential Skills • Hands-on experience supporting vehicle validation, product development, prototype, or testing programs. • Practical experience with instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition systems, or vehicle electronics. • Familiarity with CAN tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, or similar diagnostic software. • Ability to capture, interpret, and analyze CAN communication and data logs. • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and test-system issues in a vehicle testing environment. • Strong documentation skills with the ability to clearly record test procedures, results, and observations. • Effective communication and organizational skills to coordinate with engineers and test teams. • Valid drivers license and ability to safely operate test vehicles. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Associate degree in Automotive Technology, Engineering Technology, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred. • Experience supporting ADAS, active safety, autonomous, connected vehicle, or other advanced automotive technologies. • Experience with sensor installation, including cameras, radar, temperature, pressure, and voltage sensors. • Familiarity with OBD diagnostics, CAN communication, data logging, and validation processes. • Background working in an engineering lab, proving ground, OEM, supplier, or research and development environment. • ASE Certification or equivalent automotive technical experience. Work EnvironmentThe role operates in a dynamic engineering test environment that may include labs, garages, proving grounds, and on-road test locations. You will work hands-on with test vehicles, vehicle electrical systems, sensors, cameras, ECUs, and data acquisition equipment, as well as CAN tools and diagnostic software. The position involves regular vehicle preparation, instrumentation installation, test execution, and post-test inspections, often requiring attention to detail and adherence to safety procedures. Work hours may vary depending on test schedules and program needs, and you will collaborate closely with engineers and other test personnel in a team-oriented setting focused on advanced and emerging automotive technologies. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Farmington Hills, MI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $33.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
