Job Title: Embedded Software EngineerJob DescriptionThis role focuses on designing and developing embedded software for weapon control systems within a broader Battle Management System portfolio. You will work on multiple projects, ranging from coding on embedded microcontrollers to building simulators with interactive graphical user interfaces. The position includes supporting the installation and assessment of embedded systems both locally and at external locations. You will collaborate closely with a team of approximately 15 engineers on a large, complex program, contributing to mission-critical capabilities.Responsibilities
• Design, code, and engineer embedded software solutions for weapon control systems across multiple Battle Management System projects. • Develop software for embedded microcontrollers, ensuring reliable and efficient operation in real-time environments. • Create simulators and interactive graphical user interfaces to support system development, testing, and demonstration. • Debug and troubleshoot low-level hardwaresoftware interfaces using tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. • Diagnose and resolve network-related issues, including network configuration, connectivity, and data transmission problems. • Write test cases and perform unit testing to validate hardwaresoftware integration and overall system functionality. • Support installation, integration, and assessment of embedded systems at local and external test and operational sites. • Work effectively in a fast-paced, rapidly changing range and field environment with a strong focus on fielding a reliable product. • Support tasking across multiple concurrent projects, managing priorities and collaborating with cross-functional team members. • Use version control systems and modern development tools to maintain code quality, traceability, and configuration control. Essential Skills
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience demonstrating the ability to concept, prototype, design, code, and engineer embedded software solutions. • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in computer engineering or electrical engineering, or equivalent direct hands-on experience with a weapon system application. • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: C#, Java, or C++. • Knowledge of hardware architectures, microcontrollers, and communication protocols relevant to embedded systems. • Knowledge of graphical user interface (GUI) development, including design and implementation. • Knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite, including network stack integration and socket programming. • Proficiency with widely used version control systems, such as Git. • Experience using debugging and troubleshooting tools for embedded systems and low-level hardwaresoftware interfaces. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and support multiple projects simultaneously. • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Knowledge and experience with weapon system integration. • Knowledge, experience, and understanding of military standards such as MIL-STD-1553. • Experience integrating embedded systems with GPS, sensors, safety interlock circuitry, and other mission-critical subsystems. • Experience with Linux-based environments for development or deployment of embedded solutions. • Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) for embedded applications. • Experience with modern development platforms and collaboration tools, including Git-based repositories and continuous integration systems. • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex issues involving hardware, software, and networks. • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary engineering team. Work EnvironmentThis position is fully onsite, five days a week, at a base in Dahlgren, VA. You will work within a secure facility as part of a team of approximately 15 engineers on a large, prime weapon system program. The environment is fast paced and field oriented, with frequent interaction between software, hardware, and test personnel. You will use tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, embedded development environments, version control systems, and network analysis utilities. Work involves both laboratory and range or field settings, with a strong focus on delivering reliable, deployable products in support of mission-critical operations. Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Dahlgren, VA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $135000.00/yr.
