Job Title: Field Integration Technician Power Systems and Grid ControlsJob DescriptionThis role provides advanced technical support for the integration, delivery, commissioning, and maintenance of distributed generation and GridSure control systems. You will work across site integration, field commissioning, and remote support to ensure reliable operation of generators, switchgear, battery storage, and industrial automation systems. The position combines hands-on field work with close collaboration with engineering, field personnel, and thirdparty vendors to deliver highquality, resilient power and control solutions. Responsibilities • Provide technical support services for site integration, site delivery, and maintenance of UIG projects and GridSure control systems. • Deploy distributed generation control systems, including PLC programming, SCADA and remote monitoring solutions, protective relay programming, battery storage applications, generators, networking equipment, and system control architectures. • Review project specifications and drawings with the broader engineering team and identify previous projects of similar type to inform design and implementation. • Provide technical support to field personnel, engineering teams, and thirdparty vendors to resolve integration and operational issues. • Deliver commissioning and integration support in the field for the installation and startup of UIG products and projects. • Support and coordinate maintenance programs for customers covering generation assets, switchgear, and controls/SCADA systems. • Make field changes to hardware, software, and configurations to support engineering requirements and customer needs. • Document final installation configurations, including asbuilt drawings and records of changes made during commissioning and maintenance. • Provide the engineering team with lessons learned from field integration and maintenance activities to drive continuous improvement. • Represent the organization at Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) by providing technical and product expertise. • Support shop personnel with technical and product expertise to ensure correct assembly, wiring, and configuration of systems. • Provide guidance on applicable codes and standards related to products, including UL (or equivalent) standards and the National Electrical Code (NEC). • Support GridSure applications both in the field and remotely, including troubleshooting and optimization of cloudbased monitoring and control. • Monitor project schedules, ensure milestone dates are achieved, and raise issues early when milestones are at risk. • Review and verify drawing packages prior to submittal and release to ensure accuracy and completeness. • Coordinate and document technical information for internal teams to maintain alignment across engineering, manufacturing, and field operations. • Resolve outstanding questions or issues related to system design, integration, and configuration. • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes. • Collaborate cooperatively with engineers, drafters, manufacturing personnel, and field teams to deliver quality engineering designs and implementations. • Communicate clearly in English, both orally and in writing, with engineers, drafters, manufacturing personnel, and customers via phone and facetoface interactions. • Help keep the overall engineering and project schedule on track by owning programlevel design and support efforts. • Own and support programlevel design and integration activities for assigned projects, ensuring technical consistency and quality across deployments. Essential Skills • At least 5+ years of experience in commissioning power systems, manufacturing generators and switchgear, and working with control systems. • Strong experience with Volvo diesel generators and associated tools. • Strong experience with MES/SCADA systems, PLCs, and industrial networks. • Strong experience with generator and power system controllers. • Experience with switchgear and generator packaging. • Experience with various industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profinet/Profibus, CANopen, J1939, EtherCAT, and MQTT. • Experience with UL (or equivalent) standards relevant to power and control equipment. • Experience with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and its application to industrial and power systems. • Experience with IP addressing and network configuration for industrial control systems. • Proficiency with communications software such as Modscan, Modbus Poll, Wireshark, NMap, or similar tools. • Proficiency with industrial automation software such as TIA Portal, Crimson 3, and related platforms. • Proficiency with protective relaying applications and software. • Proficiency with protective relays such as Siemens Siprotec 5, ABB REx, and SEL 300/600/700 series. • Proficiency with Volvos Vodia tool and related diagnostic software. • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills with a clear focus on continuous improvement. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawing sets and understand the terminology used in electrical and mechanical engineering documentation. • Ability to travel up to approximately 55% of the year (with overall role travel expectations of about 6070%). • Manual dexterity to operate digital equipment, including computers and machine controllers. • Ability to interact effectively with peers and management in both field and office settings. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Background in field engineering, integration, switchgear, and industrial automation. • Experience working in live industrial process facilities, manufacturing environments, and project construction sites. • Comfort supporting microgrids, distributed energy resources, and advanced grid modernization projects. • Ability to work independently in remote and field environments while maintaining clear communication with central engineering teams. • Strong problemsolving skills for diagnosing complex interactions between generators, controls, networks, and protective devices. • Interest in decarbonization, grid resiliency, and modern electric grid infrastructure. • Capability to contribute lessons learned and feedback to improve products, processes, and system designs. Work EnvironmentThis is a remote role, with the expectation that you live near a major airport to support frequent travel. Travel requirements are approximately 6070% to customer sites, where you will work in a variety of environments including manufacturing facilities, project construction sites, and live industrial process facilities. You will occasionally work around electrical testing and other industrial processes and must be comfortable operating safely in these settings. The role involves working in both hot and cold weather conditions and requires physical activities such as lifting, squatting, standing, and working in high and low positions for extended periods. You will use digital equipment, including computers and machine controllers, and work closely with engineering, drafting, manufacturing, and field teams. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
