Assistant Professor or Higher (Emergency Medicine)
Position Description: Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit.
Major/Essential Functions: • Supports the Program Director with the administration and ongoing development of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program • Participates in resident recruitment, including applicant interviews, selection, orientation, and onboarding, and supports faculty recruitment activities as appropriate. • Assists with monitoring compliance with ACGME, institutional, and departmental graduate medical education requirements. • Collaborates with the Program Director, faculty, program coordinator, departmental leadership, hospital leadership, and institutional GME leadership. • Provides patient care in the Emergency Department. • Serves as medical control physician for El Paso EMS while on duty in the Emergency Department. • Participates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of the residency curriculum and educational program. • Reviews and assesses resident performance, milestones, evaluations, educational outcome, and progression, and assists with remediation and professional development as appropriate. • Supervises, evaluates, mentors, and teaches residents, fellows, and medical students in the clinical setting. • Participates in morbidity and mortality conferences, journal clubs, departmental meetings, and educational activities. • Engages in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship • Participates in professional emergency medicine societies such as ACEP, SAEM, AAEM. • Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties • Contributes to the community through academically related public service complementary to the institutional mission. • Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations. • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility. • Upholds and promotes the values-based culture of TTUHSC El Paso.
Required Qualifications: • MD or DO degree • Successful completion of ACGME-accredited residency program in Emergency Medicine • Texas Medical License, or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine
Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in graduate -medical education, residency program administration, curriculum development, or resident assessment. • Knowledge of ACGME requirements, milestones, competencies, and graduate medical education standards. • Evidence in continued growth in clinical, teaching, research, or scholarly activities related to Emergency Medicine. • Demonstrated accomplishments in clinical practice, teaching, research, or scholarly activities related to Emergency Medicine. • Current ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certifications • Experience educating residents and medical students • Established or emerging regional or national reputation for the rank of Associate Professor or higher
