About this role
ICBL is Barbados’ largest general insurance provider, writing business in all areas of general insurance including, Property, Liability, Accident, Motor, Marine, Aviation and Transit Insurance. ICBL also offers insurance coverage for Group Life, Group Health, Annuities and Individual and Group Pensions.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the permanent position of Payroll & Human Resources Assistant in the Human Resources Business Unit. This position is at the level of Grade 6 in the Company’s compensation structure.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Payroll Administration
• Maintains employee records in Micropay, ensuring that employee changes are entered correctly and on time for
payment of salaries.
• Prepares documentation for the payment of NISSS, PAYE, With Holding Tax (WHT) and for the transfer of funds for payroll.
• Completes all statutory returns as required.
• Completes reconciliations that relate to the payroll accounts.
• Keeps abreast with company policies and tax legislation that impact on remuneration.
• Processes payroll reports for integrating into the financial system (SAGE).
• Responds to employee queries & requests regarding payroll or benefits.
• Assists with the onboarding process, including review of all new hire forms.
• Assists with group life, medical and pension enrollments.
HR Administration
• Maintains employee files and HR databases.
• Assists with recruitment activities, including scheduling interviews and preparing onboarding documentation.
• Coordinates employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
• Assists with the preparation of HR letters and other personnel documents.
• Supports employee engagement initiative.
Other Duties
• Maintains and updates employee records in the HRIS (e.g., status changes, promotions, salaries).
• Generates standard or adhoc HR and Payroll reports.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and necessary for the development of the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
• An Associate Degree in Management, Accounts or equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the area of Payroll or Accounts.
• Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance and/or Professional Diploma in Insurance would be an asset.
• Previous experience in an insurance environment would be an asset.
• Understanding of Barbados Income Tax (TAMIS) and NISSS systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Strong numerical skills.
• Excellent problem solving/judgment skills and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines.
• Strong skills with respect to using and understanding the flow of transactions in an automated payroll system.
• Good organizational skills with the ability to multitask and work autonomously.
• Must possess the highest level of professionalism, confidentiality, sound morals and ethics, with the ability to develop trusting and effective working relationships with colleagues across the organization.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively and professionally, as well as communicating with clarity and confidence with all employees.
• Strong ability to use judgment and discretion.
