About this role

Job summary

This role provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced, motivated and passionate operational services manager, to be responsible for the management of salaried dental services throughout CTM University Health Board.

The dental salaried service sits within the Primary Care and Community Care Group within CTM University Health Board.

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge and experience of managing NHS dental services, particularly within the salaried dental service [Community Dental and the Dental Teaching Unit] Will have proven experience in performance management and service development of a wide range of dental specialities.

We are looking for a manager who can come and make a difference to our team and provide inspirational leadership, alongside day-to-day operational management.

The Service Manager will deputise for the Directorate Manager and have experience of managing teams, with the ability to maintain the supportive team environment and provide opportunities for continued learning and development.

This post is fixed term/Secondment for 12 months due to maternity cover

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Directorate Manager, the post holder is expected to contribute with the senior management team to ensure operational plans and performance are closely managed, by proactively leading and providing solutions to resolve difficult operational issues, in accordance with agreed University Health Board objectives, targets, quality standards and resource constraints, promptly escalating issues which are unable to be resolved.

The Service Manager will have managerial experience in leading teams, and will possess leadership skills to deal competently with difficult issues ensuring that policy is implemented and performance managed on behalf of the Directorate senior management team.

The post holder will support the Directorate Manager and Clinical Director, to provide strategic direction taking lead responsibility for certain operational aspects of business, financial, activity and performance management.

Working closely with the senior management team, the Service Manager will develop and implement the Integrated Medium Term Plan and operational strategies, ensuring that systems and processes are in place to comply with relevant legislation and governance requirements.

Responsible for ensuring that their teams continually deliver improvements to patient services and staff working practices aligned to the principles of Values Based Healthcare.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Knowledge Essential

Educated to Master's Level in relevant subject, or possess equivalent skills, knowledge and experience in administration/management. Management qualification or demonstrable management skills including effective people management including performance management and development. Demonstrable understanding of service improvement, evaluation and redesign.

Desirable

Project Management qualification e.g. PRINCE2.

Experience Essential

Significant experience within a NHS environment or complex organisation. Experience of analysing and interpreting information to identify and manage variances in performance and identifying solutions to deliver improvement. Experience of business planning.

Skills and attributes Essential

First class interpersonal skills with ability to gain and sustain credibility with clinicians/managers Skilled in influencing and persuading others. Able to prioritise and manage the ongoing work of services and/or projects. Results orientated and delivery against targets and deadlines. Able to present well-reasoned and structured argument orally and in writing. Ability to perceive impact of actions on the decisions and activity of others.

Other role requirements Essential

Able to work hours flexibly as required by the service. Ability to travel throughout the UHB locality in a timely manner.
