Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for two band 7, Advanced Speech and Language Therapists. These posts are permanent and will provide input into the Learning Disabilities Community Teams in Sunderland and Gateshead.
Post 1: This is a part-time position, working 22.5 hours per week, based at Monkwearmouth Hospital in Sunderland.
Post 2: This is a part-time position, working 30 hours per week, based at Bensham Hospital in Gateshead.
We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic individuals with specialist clinical experience in this area. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and have the skills and knowledge to develop the delivery of speech and language therapy within these services, whilst providing excellent, high quality input.
These services provide assessment, intervention and an MDT approach/care co-ordination service to adults who have a learning disability, behaviours that challenge and/or mental health needs and require specialist speech and language therapy input for communication and dysphagia needs.
Main duties of the job
You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated community support for communication and dysphagia issues providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation as required.
You will need to be confident in providing high quality, evidence-based assessments and interventions and have an understanding and experience of working with people with a range of complex issues from a variety of settings and environments. Liaison with community teams, other organisations and with families and carers will be a significant part of this role.
You will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work independently. There will be a requirement to share knowledge and skills specific to speech and language therapy with other members of the team including stakeholders.
You will contribute to, write and review care plans and provide high quality, patient centred care. You will have a varied caseload, working in day centres and patients' homes with opportunities to contribute to a range of wider projects within the community setting. You will work closely with the clinical lead for the team and will provide clinical supervision, support and leadership for other members of the team as designated.

Education and Qualification Essential
Recognised SALT degree or equivalent and registered with HCPC Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses to Masters level equivalence Post graduate level qualification relevant to area of specialism Post graduate level dysphagia qualification
Desirable
Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Attendance at a leadership course
Skills and Competencies Essential
