Trauma & Orthopaedic Medical Secretary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trauma & Orthopaedic Medical Secretary to join our dedicated team at Broomfield Hospital. In this pivotal role, you will provide a comprehensive secretarial service, supporting consultants and clinical staff while helping to ensure patients receive a seamless and positive experience throughout their care journey.
You will use your excellent organisational, communication and administrative skills to manage a varied workload, including correspondence, clinic administration, patient enquiries and the coordination of patient pathways. As a key point of contact, you will work closely with colleagues across the Trust to support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job
Provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons, Associate Specialists, Specialist Registrars and senior technical staff within a busy multidisciplinary team.
Process diagnostic reports and clinical correspondence promptly, ensuring patients progress efficiently through their care pathway.
Support the management of patient pathways, helping to deliver services in line with national waiting time and access targets.
Maintain accurate patient records and administrative systems, ensuring all information is updated in a timely and confidential manner.
Coordinate appointments, investigations and follow-up requirements, liaising with patients, clinicians and other departments as required.
Act as a key point of contact for patients, relatives and healthcare professionals, providing a professional and responsive service.
Monitor and track patient appointments, diagnostic outcomes and pathway milestones, escalating any delays or concerns appropriately.
Contribute to the smooth running of the Orthopaedic service by undertaking a range of administrative duties and supporting continuous service improvement initiatives.

To hold GCSE Maths & English grade C or above or equivalent certificate RSA/PCR typing/text transcription stage II or equivalent experience

Completion of Medical secretary terminology course/qualification

Previous secretarial and typing experience Experience of working with IT office packages Experience working in busy demanding environment

Previous secretarial experience in a medical environment Sound knowledge of medical terminology Experience of using hospital administration systems
