We are looking for an experienced and motivated Phlebotomist to join our friendly GP surgery team. The role involves providing high-quality phlebotomy services for our patients in a supportive and well-organised environment.

Main duties of the job
To provide a high-quality phlebotomy service within a busy and fast-paced GP practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining blood samples from patients aged 15 and above, ensuring accurate patient identification and sample labelling, maintaining infection prevention and control standards, managing clinic appointments efficiently, and providing excellent patient care and communication at all times. The role requires the ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and remain calm and professional in a demanding clinical environment.

Job description Job responsibilities
To provide a high-quality and efficient phlebotomy service to patients registered at the practice, supporting the clinical team in the delivery of safe and effective care. The postholder will work independently to collect blood samples from patients, ensuring accurate labelling, recording, and timely dispatch of specimens to support diagnosis and ongoing clinical care.
Key Responsibilities
Perform venepuncture on patients in line with clinical guidance and infection control standards.
Ensure samples are correctly labelled, recorded, and prepared for collection by the laboratory.
Accurately update patient records on the clinical system (EMIS).
Maintain equipment, stock levels, and cleanliness of the phlebotomy area.
Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure a smooth and efficient service.
Provide reassurance and information to patients, ensuring dignity, privacy, and comfort at all times.
Report any abnormal findings, incidents, or concerns to the appropriate clinician or manager.
Adhere to all practice policies, including infection control, health and safety, confidentiality, and safeguarding.
Essential Skills and Experience
Competency in phlebotomy, with evidence of up-to-date training and practice.
Ability to communicate messages and instructions accurately to colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrate good customer care skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the Multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and visitors.
Ability to prioritise the care requirements for identified patients
Basic skills of empathy and reassurance.
Basic keyboard and IT skills
Organise own day to day work tasks or activities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Understanding of infection control and patient confidentiality.
Accurate record-keeping and attention to detail.

Previous experience working in a GP practice or healthcare setting.
