Early Childhood Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities Beverly, Massachusetts | Full-Time This full-time faculty position follows CCCBSD's 204-day school calendar (37.5 hours per week). The annual schedule includes one orientation day in July, followed by 23 summer program days (Monday–Thursday) scheduled at approximately 30 hours per week during the summer session in July and August. The calendar also includes one additional orientation day in September and 181 school days during the academic year (Monday–Friday). As an Early Childhood Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities, you will help shape meaningful educational experiences for young students with diverse developmental, physical, communication, and behavioral needs. You will empower students to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and communicatively through accessible, individualized instruction. Your Impact As an Early Childhood Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities, you will lead a small classroom of approximately 3–5 students, supported by an intensive faculty-to-student ratio and a highly collaborative team. You will provide adapted curriculum, individualized classroom instruction, therapeutic support, and communication-focused learning opportunities designed around each student's unique strengths, needs, interests, and educational goals. Our students have significant developmental, physical, communication, sensory, and behavioral needs. Teachers use a variety of instructional and communication approaches, including American Sign Language (ASL), spoken language, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), voice-output systems, assistive technology, visual supports, and other multimodal communication strategies. Teachers work closely with a complete team of specialists, including Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, BCBAs, Assistive Technology Specialists, Adaptive Physical Education staff, Curriculum Specialists, and more. Key Responsibilities • Lead an early childhood classroom serving students with severe and complex disabilities • Deliver individualized, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with student IEPs and educational goals • Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to meet students' academic, developmental, communication, behavioral, sensory, and physical needs • Create a language-rich, communication-focused classroom environment that promotes engagement, independence, and meaningful participation • Implement the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks using a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies • Incorporate AAC, voice-output systems, assistive technology, visual supports, ASL, and other communication modalities throughout the school day • Collaborate closely with related-service providers and specialists to coordinate educational, therapeutic, behavioral, and communication supports • Participate in IEP development, educational assessments, progress monitoring, and required documentation • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with families and caregivers to support student success • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and communication to classroom Teaching Assistants to ensure effective classroom functioning and student support • Participate in weekly professional development, collaborative planning, curriculum development, and ongoing learning opportunities • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment aligned with CCCBSD's mission and core values What We're Looking For • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; Master's degree preferred • Must be eligible for Massachusetts DESE licensure or waiver as a Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities; licensed candidates strongly preferred • Experience leading or supporting a classroom in a special education or early childhood setting strongly preferred • Experience working with children presenting with a range of disabilities and complex developmental needs required • Experience with or knowledge of AAC and voice-output communication systems required • Coursework or experience in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Deaf Education, Communication Disorders, Assistive Technology, or related fields preferred • Familiarity with a variety of instructional methodologies and approaches for students with significant disabilities • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) strongly preferred; strong communication skills across modalities required • High comfort level implementing instructional technology and a range of language, academic, communication, and therapeutic supports • Ability to provide a supportive, caring, and student-centered learning environment • Strong collaboration, communication, and instructional leadership skills • Recent graduates and candidates who are eligible for Massachusetts licensure or a licensure waiver are encouraged to apply Why Join CCCBSD? Work Environment & Physical Demands This position involves active classroom participation and direct support of young children with diverse developmental, sensory, communication, behavioral, and physical needs. Responsibilities may include mobility assistance, feeding support, toileting, physical transfers, playground supervision, implementation of individualized care plans, and occasional administration of emergency medications in the absence of a nurse. Participation in emergency preparedness drills is required. Teachers must be able to actively engage in classroom activities, community-based instruction, and student support throughout the school day.
