JOB TITLE: Strength and Conditioning Supervisor REPORTS TO: Athletic Director/Building Principal

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for all sports, with three major goals: improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. The Strength and Conditioning Supervisor devises training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, maintains athlete records and attendance. The Strength and Conditioning Supervisor meets regularly with sport coaches to determine what the athletes need to work on. If working with an injured athlete engaged in rehabilitation, the Strength and Conditioning Supervisor will consult with the sports medicine staff and follow orders as directed. The Strength and Conditioning Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the strength and conditioning facility and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*:

• Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs for all school-sanctioned male and female athletic programs in a manner that reflects research-driven practices and allows the weight room to be utilized appropriately.

• Work in cooperation with the sports medicine staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.

• Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport head coaches, sports medicine and school administrators.

• Implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and the USA Olympic Lifting Standards.

• Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance, eligibility, and athlete progress in conjunction with the sport head coaches.

• Schedule maintenance as needed.

• Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct in the weight room that mirror the school's expectations for curricular and extracurricular activities, as stated in the school's Student Handbook (e.g. appropriate behavior, cell phone use, music selection).

• Provide input on staff development needs and equipment needs to the Athletic Director.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Work surfaces may vary form concrete to grass to hardwood floors. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self motivated and able to work under stressful conditions. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience:

• PE endorsement or relevant certification preferred (e.g. NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification).

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength and conditioning training.

• Experience and/or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for high school populations.

• Strong motivational ability.

• Evidence of ability to interact positively with student athletes, colleagues and the public.

• Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.

Licenses/Special Requirements Current standard first aid, CPR, and AED certification. Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes. Ability to visually monitor athletes. Sitting, standing, lifting, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling and moving equipment (up to 50 pounds). Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions in regards to weight room equipment. Valid photo identification. Social Security Card. WSP/FBI fingerprint/background clearance. Equipment/Materials Handled Must know how to operate strength training equipment. Work Environment Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Work surfaces will vary from concrete to grass to hardwood floors. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
