Position Opening: Part-Time ESOL Specialist / Instructor (Hourly Contracted) Location: Mid-Coast Maine-Damariscotta, Newcastle, Bremen, Nobleboro, Jefferson, Bristol, & South Bristol (Serving three local school districts with support extended to Lincoln Academy) — Open to Remote/Virtual Applicants Position Type: Part-Time / Hourly Contracted Certifications Required: State of Maine ESOL Endorsement (660) Position Overview Two neighboring school districts in the Mid-Coast Maine region are seeking a qualified, dynamic, and flexible Part-Time ESOL Specialist for an hourly contracted position. This role is designed to deliver targeted English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) services across both districts. While preference is given to local/itinerant applicants, we are open to considering qualified remote providers capable of delivering high-quality virtual ESOL instruction and coordination. In addition to serving local public school students, this position involves supporting multilingual learners who attend Lincoln Academy—a local private town academy in Newcastle—and reside in its international residential dormitory program. The ideal candidate will possess strong intercultural communication skills, flexibility, and a commitment to helping both local day students and international boarding students achieve language proficiency and academic success. Primary Responsibilities
• Assessment & Identification: Conduct screening using the state-approved WIDA Screener for newly enrolled students whose Language Use Survey indicates a primary language other than English. Administer annual WIDA ACCESS assessments in accordance with Maine Department of Education requirements. (Note: In-person coordination may be required during state testing windows).
• Direct Instruction: Provide direct, evidence-based English language development instruction (in-person or virtually) aligned with the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework (2020 Edition).
• Collaborative Support: Partner with general education staff, content-area teachers, and special education/IEP teams to scaffold curriculum access and differentiation.
• Residential & International Student Support: Coordinate language support for Lincoln Academy boarding students living in campus housing, providing tailored instruction that accounts for diverse international educational backgrounds and acculturation needs.
• Compliance & Program Oversight: Assist local administrators in maintaining compliance with district Lau Plans, federal civil rights guidelines, and Maine DOE program requirements for Multilingual Learners (MLs).

Qualifications
• Endorsement: Current State of Maine Teaching Certificate with Endorsement 660 (ESOL, PK–12) (Required).
• Assessment Certification: WIDA Screener and WIDA ACCESS Test Administrator certification (or completion of WIDA Secure Portal training prior to testing windows).
• Experience: Experience teaching English language acquisition across K–12 grade spans. Background working with international or residential boarding students is preferred. Experience with distance learning platforms is required if applying as a remote provider.
• Skills: Strong organizational skills, cross-district communication, cultural responsiveness, and self-direction.
Position Schedule & Compensation
• Employment Status: Hourly Contract (Part-Time, non-benefited). Remote providers will be engaged on an independent contractor or contracted agency/vendor basis.
• Hours: Approximately 1 to 20+ hours per month (varies based on active student caseload and screening needs across districts).
• Compensation: Competitive hourly contracted rate commensurate with experience and degree level.
