PRIMARY PURPOSE: The District Math (3-8) Coach is responsible for working closely with teachers and curriculum and instruction teams in grades 3-8 to increase student achievement in math. The Math Coach will ensure a streamlined approach to supporting literacy interventions and best practices across elementary and secondary campuses with a focus on improving mathematical instructional skills. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Bachelor's Degree, required Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in Bilingual or ESL, required Master's Degree, preferred Special Knowledge/Skills: Deep understanding of scientifically based mathematics research, development evidence-based practices for teaching mathematics and assessing student progress toward achievement of knowledge and skills in mathematics; Extensive knowledge base of content, methodology for teaching mathematics, as well as TEKS, STAAR and district alignment in mathematics and curriculum documents; Provide training to campus staff on scientifically based mathematics research and evidence-based practices for teaching mathematics; Gather and assist in analyzing data and complete reports related to Mathematics for all student groups Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the mathematics achievement of struggling students; Ability to plan and organize work, set priorities and evaluate accomplishment of goals within established timelines with minimum supervision; Ability to hold records, reports, tests, test results and conversations with confidence Experience: Five (5) years of experience as an elementary and/or middle school classroom teacher, preferred Days: 197 Pay Grade: AE-03 Daily Pay Range: Minimum: $317.01 Maximum: $442.29 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assist teachers with the use of appropriate core and supplemental intervention materials that align with district and state curriculum for differentiated instruction (Sp. Ed., EB, GT, etc.)
• Work with teachers to develop effective math lessons that are: aligned to grade level standards, differentiated to meet the needs of diverse learners, based on best practices, and aligned to the district scope and sequence.
• Work with teachers ensure successful students' academic achievement by planning effective lessons, modeling best practices in math instruction, co-teaching to practice effective execution of lesson cycle, working with small groups of students during math camps to model best practices, and provide professional learning opportunities to build teacher capacity for success.
• Collaborate with teachers and curriculum and instruction teams to progress monitor the academic achievement of struggling students; work with the team to develop interventions that positively impact student achievement.
• Develop model lessons with high yield strategies and best practices to serve as exemplars for teachers when planning future lessons
• Maintain open communication with the District Content Coordinators and curriculum and instruction teams to ensure streamlined delivery of professional learning and support to all teachers and campuses.
• Provide Professional Staff Development and training sessions for district and campus-based initiatives.
• Assist with the selection of books and other instructional materials to meet individual math needs.
• Work with instructional leaders and teachers by observing math classrooms conducting follow-up conferences and demonstrating effective teaching practices for instructional improvement.
• Attend campus leadership team meetings and support teachers with instructional processes, systems, and modeling instruction around effective teaching practices.
• Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
• Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator) in accordance with funding source guidelines.
