Function: The Woonsocket Learning Community provides all learners with a safe and rigorous learning experience that embraces diversity, culture, and individuality to create productive members of our global community. An individual who supports interdependent, student-centered classrooms that promote discourse and collaboration. A Resource Teacher will provide remedial and/or supportive educational activities for diagnosed handicapped students enrolled in the secondary level, as indicated by their Individual Educational Plan. This teacher will also provide services to handicapped students who require supportive services in their vocational education programs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assists in the screening, evaluation, and placement of students in special education programs. Develops an individualized and sequential program for students diagnosed as handicapped who require special education. Provides individualized and/or small group instruction according to needs specified in the individualized educational plan. Conducts educational, classroom, and vocational assessments as requested by the multidisciplinary team. Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings when necessary as determined by the Chairperson. Assists the student, family, and teachers in making a realistic assessment of students’ abilities. Works cooperatively with classroom teachers interpreting the abilities and disabilities of students referred from regular classes and assists the student with regular class assignments. Assists other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or behavioral problems of such students. Maintains accurate records on all students evaluated and served. Provides, when necessary, prescriptive programs for regular class and vocational teachers, allowing them to implement modifications that enhance students’ ability to benefit from classroom activities. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides, instructional supplies, and equipment. Assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned. Required Qualifications: RIDE Certification K-8 required Evidence of educational preparation or practical experience in providing educational and vocational instructional activities to secondary-level students. MLL Certification is preferred
