TITLE: Kitchen Manager 2 LOCATION: Clear Creek Amana High School (Tiffin, IA) REPORTS TO: Food and Nutrition Director with input from the Building Principals QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent education and experience. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to stand for extended periods, walk, and handle objects, serving utensils, and kitchen equipment. Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. Serve as the first line of supervision for assigned kitchen staff, prioritizing, planning, and monitoring work activities to ensure timely completion. Ability to train new employees. Ability to follow instructions and respond to supervisor direction. Knowledge of cooking procedures and kitchen equipment. Proficient with computer software, including Google and Microsoft Suites. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, ordering, inventory control, and proper food storage requirements. Ability to pass a background check and physical ability exam (lifting 30 lbs) prior to hire. Must currently possess, or be able to obtain, a ServSafe Manager certification within one year of hire. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare food following standardized recipes and food safety protocols. Operate kitchen equipment and perform tasks safely and hygienically. Clean and maintain food service equipment and facilities. Serve food in accordance with state portion size guidelines. Foster positive relationships with staff, students, and parents/guardians, addressing any concerns or issues that may arise. Handle employee relations, offering guidance and support to kitchen staff, and addressing any performance or interpersonal issues with a problem-solving approach. Maintain confidentiality and uphold a high level of ethical behavior when managing student, staff, and parent information. Maintain accurate daily food production records. Provide year-end inventory records to the Food and Nutrition Director and assist with additional record-keeping as required. Submit all food orders in a timely manner. Manage the operation of the à la carte food program, vending machine operations, and catering. Attend required training sessions and manager meetings to stay informed on updates and best practices. Ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and on time. Follow district policies and School Food and Nutrition program procedures. Ensure regular attendance. Perform other duties as assigned by the Food and Nutrition Director. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Proper lifting techniques and the use of equipment like utility carts, can racks, dunnage racks, and stepping stools are required to assist with physical demands. The ability to tolerate temperature fluctuations typical of food service facilities is essential. Effective vocal communication is necessary for expressing and exchanging ideas, while hearing is required to understand information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is needed for reviewing written or computer data, checking work accuracy, and observing the surroundings. Cooks will interact daily with teachers, students, administrators, the public, and other staff members. The ability to handle complaints, maintain a service-oriented attitude, and work well with others in a potentially small work environment is expected.
