WAYLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR JOB POSTING Position: ABA Tutor, Special Education Position Summary: Wayland Public Schools is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and motivated ABA Tutor, Special Education to join our Intensive Learning Center (ILC) and Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) programs. These specialized educational programs support students who require significant individualized instruction and support to access their educational environment successfully. ABA Tutors play an essential role in helping students develop communication, social, academic, behavioral, and independence skills through evidence-based instructional practices, including the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Under the direction of Special Education Teachers and in collaboration with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and related service providers, ABA Tutors provide direct support to students throughout the school day while fostering meaningful relationships, communication, safety, dignity, and independence. The ILC and TLC programs emphasize education, training, collaboration, and teamwork. Staff receive ongoing professional development and weekly training to ensure high-quality, individualized support for every student. The ILC and TLC programs are designed for learners who require individualized support to increase independence across communication, social, behavioral, and academic domains. Students receive a modified curriculum aligned with their individual needs while developing the skills necessary to participate as independently as possible within classroom, school, and community settings. Our programs provide systematic instruction utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), frequent opportunities for skill practice and generalization, and close collaboration among educators, families, and related service providers. Students may: • Have diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder, neurological disabilities, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, or sensory disabilities, or have experienced trauma • Be non-speaking, minimally speaking, or developing language skills • Require individualized support with communication, social interaction, academics, behavior regulation, activities of daily living, executive functioning, and safety skills Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Provide behavioral assistance, social-emotional support, and individualized support to students with special needs. • Support students with Autism and other disabilities as they access the general education curriculum, participate in classroom activities, and engage in school-wide and community-based learning experiences, as appropriate. • Support students in developing appropriate academic, communication, social-emotional, behavioral, independence, and life skills. • Implement individualized educational and behavioral programming under the direction of the classroom teacher, Special Education Teacher, and/or BCBA. • Provide direct instructional support using evidence-based teaching strategies, including principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). • Assist students with behavioral regulation, coping strategies, communication, daily routines, activities of daily living, and executive functioning skills. • Implement positive behavior intervention plans (BIPs), behavior support plans, communication plans, safety plans, and other individualized support strategies. • Promote student independence through systematic prompting, reinforcement, and fading procedures. • Facilitate communication opportunities, including the use of multimodal communication systems. • Collect student performance data and maintain accurate documentation to monitor progress toward IEP goals and individualized programming. • Support students during academic instruction, social opportunities, activities of daily living, and community-based learning experiences. • Assist teachers with instructional and classroom responsibilities, including responsibilities that may not be directly related to special education. • Assist with classroom organization, preparation of instructional materials, and implementation of indiviual IEP's Professional Development & Training The ILC and TLC Programs places a strong emphasis on staff education and professional growth. All ABA Tutors receive:
• Explicit weekly staff training
• Direct instruction in foundational ABA principles and best teaching practices
• Individualized training regarding assigned students' strengths, interests, communication styles, and learning needs
• Training on safety plans, behavior support plans, communication plans, and activities of daily living programming
• Ongoing consultation and coaching from the BCBA, classroom teacher, and related service providers
• Safety care training
Relationships, communication, safety, and dignity are at the forefront of all training and practice within the ILC Program. Qualifications:
• Education: High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children is highly preferred.
• Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland's goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the personal characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for students. Education and Experience:
• Advanced Degree: Associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
• DESE Licensure: Not required; paraprofessional certification preferred
• SEI Endorsement: Not required
Work Schedule and Compensation:
• Hours: 30.08 per week
• Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:45am-2:30pm
• Wednesday: 7:30am-1:35pm
• Salary: $25.63-$33.89 an hour
