WAYLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR JOB POSTING Title: High School Spanish Teacher (Leave of Absence) Position Summary: Wayland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Spanish Teacher to join our team. This position is for November 2 - December 22, 2026. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of our adolescent learners. Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to):
• Teach five sections of high school Spanish;
• Create an environment of belonging in the classroom that is conducive to students' growth as learners and community members;
• Embrace the diversity of the students and ensure that they all have equitable opportunities for learning and belonging;
• Provide appropriate learning experiences in applicable content/skill areas and SEL, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements;
• Hold high expectations for all students, provide appropriate support, and serve as a facilitator of student learning;
• Actively participate in the accomplishment of the goals and priorities of the department;
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with the Academic Support coordinator, school counselors, administrators, teachers, special educators, METCO liaison, and/or parents/caretakers to provide and monitor appropriate supports for students;
• Work with district and school leadership to combat systemic barriers that limit student, family, and staff members' equitable access to opportunity;
• Any other relative duties as assigned.
Experience (preferred, but not required):
• Experience teaching in a proficiency-based high school classroom preferred
• Experience working with students with academic struggles and/or disabilities/special abilities preferred
• Experience working with students who are English language learners preferred
• Experience with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) and PowerSchool preferred, but will train the right candidate
• Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in secondary education or content area required, Masters degree preferred;
• Experience: Previous experience working with high school-aged children is highly preferred.
• Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland's goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the personal characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for students. Education and Experience:
• DESE Licensure: Must hold valid Massachusetts licensure in relevant content area
• SEI Endorsement: Evidence of Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement is mandatory.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
• Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
