Position Vacancy 09.28.2026 Cheltenham School District in Elkins Park, Montgomery County, PA, a diverse suburban school district of approximately 4,300 students and 700 employees, is seeking a Custodial Supervisor. Position Title: Custodial Supervisor Department: Facilities and Maintenance Reports To: Director and Assistant Director of Facilities and Maintenance FLSA Status: Exempt Grade/Tier: CASSA – 12-Month Position Location: District-wide Work Hours: Second Shift *May include weekends. POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for supervision of custodial and maintenance operations staff of the school district. This includes work plans, project work, staff assignments, inventory control, ordering of custodial supplies, equipment, and evaluating conditions of buildings. A strong focus of this position will be on supervision and training of staff. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assures compliance with state, local fire codes, and regulations in particular those contained in the Uniform Fire Code and Uniform Construction Code.

• Provides support to the Director and Assistant Director in the maintenance and inspection of building fire alarms, fire detection systems, sprinkler systems, and extinguishers.

• Following prescribed procedure, answers security and fire alarm calls, police and fire department calls, and performs on-site building inspections.

• Monitors buildings during night and weekend hours in an effort to deter vandalism and property damage.

• Supervises all 2nd shift custodial employees including defining work routines, arrangements for substitutes, rotation of staff, on-the-job supervision, assist in conducting annual employee evaluations, training opportunities, inspections, and provide appropriate recommendations as needed.

• Lead and supervise professional development opportunities in conjunction with Facilities Director.

• Checks the quality of 2nd shift custodial work performance in all buildings, and reports recommendations as needed.

• Under the direction of Director of Facilities and in conjunction with the Assistant Director coordinates and schedules snow and ice removal, and inspects facilities to ensure that work meets district standards.

• Investigates and reviews work-related matters involving 2nd shift Facilities staff members and formulates recommendations to prevent or mitigate future occurrences.

• Ensures the readiness of campus facilities and equipment necessary for hosting events.

• Coordinates with the Director of Facilities in regards to the inventory and ordering processes for the department.

• Designs and prepares written procedures, forms, charts, spreadsheets, presentations and policies applicable to the 2nd shift custodial staff.

• In conjunction with Assistant Director of Facilities, maintains an inventory of custodial supplies. Order supplies as necessary. Consults with the department heads in evaluating products and quantities at least monthly.

• Monitor all district activities that take place on school property after regular working hours.

• Inspect all site locations where scheduled activities occur; both before and after the event.

• In concert with the Director of Facilities, identify, assign and solve problems brought to the attention of the Department by other District departments.

• Meet with various school staff members from all levels in order to make improvements, solve existing problems and exercise preventative maintenance as it relates to 2nd shift duties and responsibilities.

• Observes general conditions of site locations and enters any work orders as necessary.

• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Associate Degree Preferred

• Minimum 3 years experience in custodial work and supervision.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff, preferably in a union environment.

• Proficiency in using computer word processing, spreadsheet and data management programs.

• Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to safety and environmental issues

• Excellent communication skills; able to interact at all levels of the organization.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to reach above and below the waist

• Ability to use fingers to pick, feel, and grasp objects

• Some bending and twisting of the body required

• Ability to lift and/or carry supplies weighing 75 lbs. or more

• Ability to climb, crouch, stoop, kneel, and crawl

• Ability to mostly sit with some walking, standing or moving throughout the district

• Ability to stand or walk eighty percent (80%) of workday

SENSORY ABILITIES: Visual acuity and auditory acuity WORK ENVIRONMENT: Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. May be exposed to hazardous materials. Must be able to work in extreme cold (32 degrees or less) and extreme heat (100 degrees or more). Subject to physical hazards, including conditions that may affect the respiratory system and/or skin. TEMPERAMENT: Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruption. Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented. Able to receive oral communication and convey details or important instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. COGNITIVE ABILITY:
