About this role
The EDR: Middle School Boys Basketball Assistant / 7th Grade Coach is responsible for the administration, organization, and development of the 7th grade boys basketball team and assisting with the overall New Hope-Solebury Middle School Boys Basketball program. This position supports the District's mission by promoting academic achievement, athletic participation, sportsmanship, and the personal growth of student-athletes through basketball instruction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices that emphasize basketball fundamentals, footwork, skill development, offensive/defensive concepts, and team play.
• Serve as the primary coach for the 7th Grade Boys Basketball team during games and competitions, while collaborating with the Head Coach to align with the broader middle school program strategy.
• Support the instruction, safety, and supervision of student-athletes during practices, home/away games, locker room usage, and team travel.
• Evaluate individual athlete performance and provide constructive feedback to support skill progression and athletic confidence.
• Promote and model appropriate conduct, sportsmanship, and respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and the school community.
• Support the academic success, well-being, and positive development of student-athletes in alignment with District expectations.
• Manage game-day operations, including scorebook coordination, warm-up routines, playing time management, and equipment setup/breakdown.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, parents/guardians, administrators, and athletic department staff regarding schedules, expectations, and team policies.
• Ensure compliance with District policies, league rules, and safety protocols, including supervision, student eligibility, and injury reporting requirements.
• Uphold and enforce District codes of conduct, team rules, and student-athlete expectations.
• Perform other duties related to the basketball program as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
Qualifications:
• Prior coaching and/or playing experience in basketball at the youth, middle school, or high school level preferred.
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, game strategy, and age-appropriate skill progression for middle school athletes.
• Ability to connect with and mentor middle school–aged student-athletes in a positive, educational environment.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate positively with fellow coaches, administrators, and athletic department staff.
• Completion of required District, league, and state-mandated coaching certifications, background checks, and clearances.
