About this role
The EDR: Middle School Girls Basketball Head / 8th Grade Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, organization, and development of the New Hope-Solebury Middle School Girls Basketball program, while serving as the lead coach for the 8th grade team. This position supports the District's mission by promoting academic achievement, athletic participation, sportsmanship, and the personal growth of student-athletes, while preparing them for transition to high school athletics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning, organization, and supervision of the middle school girls basketball program, aligning team concepts and skill development with high school program goals.
• Serve as the head coach for the 8th Grade Girls Basketball team, directing game strategy, practice plans, and player development.
• Supervise and coordinate with assistant/sub-varsity middle school coaches to ensure consistent instruction, safety, and team standards across all grade levels.
• Plan and conduct daily structured practices that emphasize fundamental basketball skills, offensive/defensive strategies, physical conditioning, and teamwork.
• Oversee student-athletes during practices, home and away games, locker room time, and team transportation.
• Evaluate individual and team performance, providing constructive guidance to foster athlete improvement and sportsmanship.
• Promote high standards of conduct, sportsmanship, and respect among student-athletes toward teammates, opponents, officials, and school staff.
• Monitor and support the academic progress, health, and well-being of student-athletes in accordance with District standards.
• Oversee game-day logistics, including venue setup, official coordination, scorebook and clock management, and equipment care.
• Maintain clear and timely professional communication with parents/guardians, student-athletes, administrators, and athletic department staff regarding schedules, logistics, and program expectations.
• Ensure strict adherence to District policies, league regulations, safety standards, eligibility requirements, and injury reporting procedures.
• Enforce District student-athlete codes of conduct and program rules.
• Perform other program-related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Qualifications:
• Prior coaching and/or playing experience in basketball at the middle school, high school, or collegiate level preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of basketball rules, game tactics, skill progression, and training methodologies suited for middle school student-athletes.
• Demonstrated ability to build a positive team culture and effectively mentor adolescent student-athletes.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with coaching staff, school administration, and parents.
• Completion of required District, league, and state-mandated coaching certifications, background checks, and clearances.
