Position Summary The Middle School Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support that helps students with disabilities access learning, build skills, and make meaningful progress. Working under the direction of the Building Principal and Director of Special Education, the teacher designs instruction around students' individual needs and serves as the IEP case manager for assigned students. This role calls for close partnership with general education teachers, families, related service providers, and paraprofessionals. The ideal candidate is an organized, collaborative educator who holds high expectations for students and knows how to provide the support they need to meet them. Key Responsibilities Specialized Instruction and Student Growth
• Plan and deliver research-based specialized instruction aligned with students' IEP goals and grade-level learning.
• Use assessment results and progress-monitoring data to adjust instruction and help students make measurable growth.
• Provide accommodations, instructional supports, and other services outlined in students' IEPs.
• Build a positive learning environment that recognizes students' strengths, encourages effort, and develops independence.
• Support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs in collaboration with the school team.
IEP Case Management
• Serve as the IEP case manager for assigned students, coordinating services and monitoring implementation of their plans.
• Schedule, prepare for, and lead IEP meetings in partnership with families and school staff.
• Develop clear, individualized goals and maintain accurate records of student progress and services.
• Complete required documentation, reporting, and timelines in accordance with district procedures and applicable state and federal requirements.
Collaboration and Family Partnership
• Communicate regularly with families about student progress, needs, and successes.
• Partner with general education teachers to plan accommodations, instructional strategies, and appropriate classroom supports.
• Coordinate with related service providers and other team members to ensure students receive the services in their IEPs.
• Provide direction and guidance to paraprofessionals supporting assigned students.
• Contribute to a school culture grounded in strong relationships, high expectations, and shared responsibility for student success.
Professional Responsibilities
• Maintain confidentiality and high ethical standards regarding student information.
• Participate in team meetings, staff meetings, professional learning, and schoolwide initiatives.
• Communicate professionally and work cooperatively with students, families, colleagues, and school leaders.
• Be attentive to student health and safety and physically assist students when required by their individual needs and assigned duties.
• Perform other comparable duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• Valid Oklahoma teaching certification in Special Education, Mild–Moderate Disabilities, or eligibility to obtain the required certification with SFS support.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with families, general education teachers, related service providers, and paraprofessionals.
Preferred
• Experience teaching or supporting middle school students with disabilities.
• Experience providing resource instruction and managing IEPs.
• Certification in Severe–Profound Disabilities, or willingness to obtain it if assigned responsibilities require it, including assessment of students participating in OAAP.
Salary and Benefits
• Salary based on the OKCPS salary schedule plus 5% for a 190-day contract.
