About this role
This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in a busy pharmacy environment while developing customer service, retail and patient care skills under the guidance of experienced pharmacy staff. The participant will receive day to day training in: • Providing excellent customer service and dealing with patients in a discreet, professional and empathetic manner. • Understanding over-the-counter medicinal products, including their uses and relevant precautions. • Till procedures, including cash handling, security processes and record keeping. • Retail presentation and merchandising techniques. • Stock rotation, stock ordering and product pricing. • Patient safety and best practice within a pharmacy setting. Training and support will be provided by experienced pharmacy staff, including pharmacy technicians and the supervising pharmacist, within a highly regulated environment. Progress will be closely monitored, with ongoing feedback and support provided to help the participant develop their skills, achieve their learning objectives and carry out all duties safely and effectively. This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP. Formal Training will include : • Health and Safety and • Manual Handling • The accredited training is provided by the Irish Pharmacy Union ( ( IPU) and the UK National Pharmaceutical Association. It is a module based course with modules based on each over the counter medicine category and law. The course is supervised by the pharmacist and submitted to the IPU for marking and assessment Informal Training: • Customer Service • Teamwork • Patient Care • Stock Ordering • Standard Operating Procedures
