Job SummaryThis position is part of the Defense Security Cooperation University (DSCU) within the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA). The incumbent supports the University's education, training, workforce development, and advising missions. Duties include preparing and delivering instruction on security cooperation topics, including Foreign Military Sales (FMS), advising U.S. and partner nation officials, conducting research and analysis, and developing instructional materials.
QualificationsYou may qualify at the AD-05 if you fulfill the following qualifications. Your resume must support all of the following requirements to be considered for the position. Please ensure transcripts reflecting a conferred master's degree are also provided with your application: 1. Master's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited university in a relevant functional area required: international relations, economics, foreign affairs, history, political science, business administration, defense and strategy, or a related field that supports DSCU's programming, research, analysis, or messaging needs. 2. Ten (10) or more years of experience with the practice, training, or study of one or more security cooperation functional areas (ref: www.dscu.edu/certification2). Experience in government, military, private sector, or academia shall be of sufficient depth or breadth as to establish professional expertise in leadership, management, planning, and execution tasks. 3. Documented intellectual contributions in area(s) of expertise. 4. Teaching experience and/or experience advising senior leaders. 5. Experience in managing foreign military sales (FMS) processes and/or international armaments cooperation with international allies and partners. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Major DutiesAs a SENIOR LECTURER at the AD-1701-5 some of your typical work assignments may include: Lead the preparation and delivery of competency-based curriculum in areas of expertise, as assigned; curriculum refers to prepared lectures, seminars, problem-based learning, case studies, instruction, and advisory services through in-person and virtual (synchronous or asynchronous) delivery. Plan, design, coordinate, and report on the execution of advising engagements with foreign partner nation officials. Provide advice to University leadership, to fellow faculty, and throughout the SC enterprise in areas of expertise. Develops alternative courses of study, assesses proposed curriculum changes, and provides recommendations to DSCU leadership. Serves as an Assistant Professors of Practice developing and teaching advanced, tailored instruction to prepare students to analyze, design, and assess programs that develop warfighting and institutional capabilities in partner nations. Prepares and delivers lectures, seminars, advising, and instruction in assigned areas, either functional, geographic, or both. Assesses needs and gaps and makes recommendations on instructional solutions. Provides academic advice to DSCU students to facilitate an understanding of and a capacity for scholarship, independent judgment, academic rigor, and intellectual honesty. Develops course curriculum and advising materials; assess course materials or advising plans and programs created by other faculty and faculty teams; plan, coordinate, and engage with partner countries in mobile courses and/or advising projects. Sustains and develops academic expertise through participation within and contributions to the community of practice and discipline. Participate in academic or professional research to create knowledge or solutions related to security cooperation and ICB topics and to the more specialized topics of the practice area/discipline.
