Job SummaryDivision of Police ensures the safety and security of employees, visitors, patients, and contractors, as well as the protection of NIH's research and knowledge assets through administering, enforcing, and coordinating a comprehensive full-service security, police protection, and law enforcement program for the health care, research, administration, and support facilities and personnel at the NIH campus and off-campus facilities.
QualificationsCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: If selected, you must pass a pre-employment medical examination, provide evidence of immunization, and be free from communicable diseases, and pass periodic retests as required. If selected, you must successfully complete a pre-employment psychological evaluation, including any required psychological testing, and be determined psychologically suitable for appointment prior to their entry on duty (EOD) date. Employees must maintain the emotional and mental stability necessary to safely and effectively perform the essential duties of a Federal Law Enforcement Officer throughout their employment. When reasonable evidence indicates that an employee's psychological condition may affect their ability to perform the essential functions of the position or may impact the safety of the employee, coworkers, or the public, the employee may be required to undergo a psychological evaluation, including additional testing when appropriate, to determine continued fitness for duty. Incumbent must submit to and successfully pass a urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment. The Incumbent will also be subject to unannounced random drug testing for the duration of their time in this position. You qualify at the GS-11 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1) performing law enforcement duties that deal with investigating, apprehending, and detaining persons suspected of criminal law offenses; 2) providing guidance on law enforcement and security polices and procedures; 3) performing various administrative functions to include reviewing and preparing police activity reports and correspondences; 4) supervising and providing guidance/direction to law enforcement personnel at various levels on duties. Major DutiesIf selected for this position as a GS-0083-11 Supervisor Police Officer (Lieutenant) your duties may include, but are not limited to the following: The incumbent provides supervision and direction to assigned subordinate police officers within the Division of Police. Represents the DP in meetings, conferences, and forums involving local, state, and federal partners, advocating for shared interests and priorities. Mediates conflicts and disagreements that may arise between agencies during joint operations, fostering a spirit of cooperation and problem-solving. Functions as a central point of contact for communication between DP and external agencies, ensuring that lines of communication remain open, and information flows smoothly to enhance collaboration. Performs and supervises responsibilities involving the investigation, apprehension, and detention of persons suspected of offenses against applicable criminal laws and traffic laws. Manages guard services in accordance with contractual provisions, to provide a safe and secure environment. May be required to perform contract officer representative responsibilities. Establishes priorities to coordinate, plan, organize, and complete work. Acts promptly, decisively, and judiciously to analyze facts, make decisions, and/or take corrective action. Assumes incident command and coordinates emergency response to critical incidents. Performs a wide range of technical, administrative and employee relations functions representing the senior management of the DP.
