Nomilk2day DFM Design for Manufacturing) Specialist Collie • Amsterdam • Op locatie DFM Design for Manufacturing) Specialist Highlights As DFM / Mechanical Engineer, you will have a direct impact on one of the most critical parts of Collie's product: the physical hardware that needs to survive for years in a demanding farm environment. The key challenge is to develop an injection-moulded housing that is extremely robust and reliable, keeps water out and can also be manufactured efficiently and cost-effectively at increasingly large volumes. What are you going to do? You will take ownership of the manufacturability, durability and reliability of Collie's mechanical hardware. Your focus will be on injection-moulded components and the choices that determine whether a product works not only in CAD, but also in production and after years of use in the field. You will: - optimise the housing and other mechanical components for injection moulding; - select appropriate plastics and materials based on durability, performance, manufacturability and cost; - evaluate different manufacturing processes and their technical and commercial trade-offs; - tackle challenges such as water ingress and long-term product durability; - work with CAD designs and advise on geometry and design choices from a DFM perspective; - work closely with external injection-moulding, tooling and manufacturing partners; - challenge suppliers and toolmakers on technical choices; - develop and evaluate prototypes and design iterations; - work closely with testing and other engineering colleagues to translate field failures into better designs; - help Collie build a faster, more iterative product-development process that can ultimately support production at significant scale.
