About this role
Program Managers own strategic areas of APAC CDS, so the leaders who run the region do not have to carry them. They hold an area, not a task list, over work delivered by Controls Engineers in the regions those areas cover, and they influence the partner teams a build depends on, including Construction, Commissioning, Networks, Procurement, Finance and Legal; deciding which areas the team holds sits at the level above. They find the problems themselves and bring the fix. They own status reporting and coach it in others, oversee the publication of key documents, and are trusted to present to Directors or above. They fix cross-functional inefficiencies through automation, AI, dashboards, policy standardization or redesign, and cut on-boarding time through training and documentation. Routine work is automated, so their time goes to judgement a robot cannot make. The areas themselves are the operational spine of the business: deployments, projects, service, colocated sites, planning and vendor performance. One of our tenets is that anything done manually which AI can do, AI should do, and we mean it, so expect to build the tooling rather than describe the problem. Expect too to write for, and present to, an audience of Directors and VPs. Key job responsibilities - Own operational areas, setting their measures of success, keeping their documentation current, and holding the partner teams a build depends on to their part - Deliver process improvements you found yourself, quantified in effort, cost, schedule or risk - Automate, so the processes you own run as routine and your time goes to exceptions and inspection - Lead goals, taking annual objectives from proposal through to a delivered, reported outcome - Produce the reporting leaders act on: accurate, timely and insightful enough that a decision follows - Own the documentation, so a run book you write can be followed by someone four months into the job - Coach the discipline in others, on status, escalation and written communication, without doing their work for them Success measures include: - Areas held and goals delivered against the count set for your level - Improvements delivered, with a measured before and after - Effort removed from the organisation by automation - Reporting accepted first pass at Director level and above A day in the life - You work at the frontier: this team uses the latest generation of AI models every day and builds its own agents, assistants and dashboards. Anything a model does well is not something a person here does by hand. - You hold the whole region: your areas span every site we build and service across Asia-Pacific, live and upcoming, so a fix lands everywhere at once. - Build, do not describe: an improvement counts when the before and after are measured, and the tooling is yours to build rather than to request. - Executives read your work: senior leaders make decisions on what you write, and you present it yourself. - Redesign is the job: nothing here stops at the existing process. Where it is inefficient, replacing it is the work rather than a side project. - Nobody hands you the problem: you find it, you scope it, and you decide what to stop doing to make room for the fix. - Growth is on you and supported: you may not know data centres or controls on day one, and the genuine desire to learn them is what we screen for. About the team About Program Management & Coordination Program Management and Coordination is the governance group inside APAC CDS. It owns the planning cycles, the goals, the business reviews and the mechanisms the region runs on, which makes it the team where process gets designed rather than requested. It is also the team that pushes hardest on tooling: we work with the latest generation of AI models every day, we build our own agents, assistants and dashboards, and nobody here is a spectator. About Controls Deployment & Service The Data Center Capacity Delivery Asia-Pacific Controls Deployment and Service (DCCD APAC CDS) team delivers and services the control systems that ensure the health of AWS data centers. Operating across Australia & New Zealand, India, North Asia, and Southeast Asia, APAC CDS manages leased and owned sites across the region and supports global follow-the-sun operations. APAC CDS covers three core disciplines: deployments (control systems in new data centers), projects (controls capital improvement works at live sites), and service (control systems at live sites), with additional specializations in colocated sites, systems engineering, controls fleet, program management, and coordination.
