About this role
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Work setting: Veterinary clinic. Animal hospital. Tasks: Collect samples and perform other laboratory tests. Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery. Produce diagnostic radiographs. Assist veterinarian before, during and after surgery. Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian. Counsel clients on animal health care. Conduct and assist in laboratory research. May perform a variety of office management and clerical duties. Perform routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistry. Provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals. Provide wound and bandage care. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Registration by a provincial or territorial, or regional association as Registered Animal Health Technologist, Registered Veterinary Technician. Technical experience: Registration. Security and safety: Immunization records. Criminal record check. Eligible for professional liability insurance.
