Job Overview: The Sales Manager – SMERFE Market is responsible for developing new business and generating guest room, meeting, banquet, and catering revenue from the Social, Military, Educational, Religious, Fraternal, and Ethnic markets. This position builds relationships throughout the Twin Cities community and drives business into need periods. Salary Range: $60,000–$70,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Develop and execute a strategic sales plan focused on growing the hotel's SMERFE market.

• Identify, prospect, and develop new accounts within the local and regional community.

• Build relationships with churches, schools, colleges and universities, military organizations, fraternal organizations, ethnic and cultural groups, nonprofits, associations, sports organizations, reunions, weddings, and social groups.

• Travel locally to conduct proactive outside sales calls, networking, client appointments, site tours, presentations, and community visits.

• Research organizations and identify upcoming meetings, conferences, reunions, celebrations, tournaments, fundraisers, and events that may require hotel accommodations or event space.

• Maintain an active pipeline of qualified prospects and consistently prospect for new business.

• Develop referral relationships with event planners, community leaders, tourism organizations, venues, vendors, and other local partners.

• Move throughout the property to conduct site inspections. Maximize revenue by selling all facets of the hotel, both orally and in written form to previous, current, and potential clients.

• Handle account details so that all pertinent aspects of solicitation and closing are complete and documented. Coordinate participation from various departments in servicing accounts.

• Travel out of town to solicit business in feeder cities or attend trainings as needed.

• Prepare information for, meet with, and entertain clients as deemed appropriate to generate potential business from that account.

• Represent the hotel at trade shows as specified by the Corporate trade show attendance guide.

• Set up exhibits involving bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching overhead.

• Assist the support staff with the maintenance of sales files.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Specific Job Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of a hotel structure and how all departments interact.

• Basic mathematical and calculator skills to prepare cost proposals.

• Ability to effectively communicate with customers in a friendly and positive manner, to solicit business, meet client needs, and resolve complaints.

• Ability to move throughout the hotel to conduct site inspections.

• Ability to listen, speak, and write to ascertain and respond to client needs.

Other Expectations:

• Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.

• Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.

• Evening and weekend availability may vary based on business needs.

• All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available).

• Employees are always required to take on the responsibility and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as determined by position and duties.

• Comply with health and safety rules, regulations, and procedures to maintain a safe environment.

Experience:

• 2+ years of hotel sales, hospitality sales, event sales, or related business development experience preferred.

• Strong prospecting, networking, communication, and negotiation skills.

• Proven ability to develop new accounts and achieve sales goals.

• Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently.

• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends based on business needs.
