About this role
A tacker trainee assists in all aspects of shop construction, repair, fitting, and launching. A tacker trainee is expected to carry out the directions of assigned supervision, including cleaning the site, and maintaining the order of the dry-dock or shop.
Duties and responsibilities
• Attend all training available.
• Set up scaffolding.
• Enter and work in internally confined spaces.
• Manipulate and transport loads of up 25-35 pounds.
• Act as a courier to return equipment & tools.
• Traverse and negotiate uneven heights between dock & vessel.
• Traverse and negotiate uneven surfaces.
• Ascend and work at heights of up to 40 feet.
• Ascend and work on wing wall of dry-dock.
Critical Demands
• Balance and strength to climb 40 ft.
• Repetitive forward bending, rotation of the trunk, and flexing of the hips and knees.
• Lifting no greater than 50 lbs. from floor to 6 ft. work surface unassisted.
• Repetitive upper extremity movements.
Working Conditions
• Work is outdoors or in open warehouse. There is no air conditioning or heating.
• Uneven surfaces throughout job site, with sand, limestone, and concrete outside. Numerous trip hazards throughout.
