This is a Full-time/hourly position

About the Role
As a Code Enforcement Officer/Stormwater Inspector or Senior Code Enforcement Officer/Stormwater Inspector, you will work closely with residents, businesses, contractors, and community partners to help maintain Greenwood Village as a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing community. This role ensures compliance with zoning, subdivision, nuisance, grading and drainage, stormwater, and health and safety regulations by conducting investigations, responding to complaints, educating violators, issuing notices, coordinating corrective actions, and supporting legal proceedings when necessary.
The Senior-level position carries additional responsibility for complex or sensitive cases—including issues related to homeless encampments, erosion or runoff impacts, or large-scale nuisances—and provides field instruction and guidance to junior officers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Code Enforcement (All Levels)
• Work collaboratively with residents and property owners to achieve voluntary compliance and maintain community standards.
• Investigate complaints related to zoning, subdivision, drainage, grading, nuisance, and other code violations; follow through to ensure resolution.
• Communicate diplomatically with violators and complainants, providing clear guidance and case updates.
• Issue verbal and written warnings, violation notices, and summonses; assist legal staff and testify in court when needed.
• Maintain accurate case files, logs, and monthly reports.
• Perform sweeps of commercial areas; identify patterns or trends and recommend code revisions when appropriate.
• Assist Police and other City staff with general inquiries related to code enforcement.
• Inspect private developments to ensure grading, erosion, and site work comply with approved plans.
• Remove signs, pick up debris, operate field equipment, and navigate various site conditions.
• Prepare letters, emails, notices, and associated correspondence.
• Utilize City systems to document inspections, manage violations, track actions, and maintain accurate records.
• Communicate professionally using strong written and verbal skills; solve problems and make sound decisions.
Stormwater (All Levels)
• Conduct grading, erosion, and sediment control inspections of private construction sites.
• Ensure compliance with the City's stormwater permit requirements.
• Deliver pre‑construction briefings on BMPs and support stormwater compliance documentation and corrective action processes.
Senior-Level Responsibilities
• Exercise independent judgment on complex or politically sensitive violations, determining appropriate enforcement actions.
• Coordinate with Public Works, Engineering, and external partners to address stormwater, grading, and drainage concerns.
• Respond to issues related to homeless encampments, ensuring compliance while supporting civil rights obligations and community needs.
• Provide resources and assistance to vulnerable community members and build strong relationships with community stakeholders.
• Offer field instruction, mentoring, and policy guidance to junior officers and staff.
Additional Functions
• Assist with site surveys and measurements.
• Attend professional meetings to stay informed of code enforcement and construction inspection trends.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements
Code Enforcement Officer/Stormwater Inspector
• One year of increasingly responsible code enforcement or related experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent; supplemental training preferred.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain CCIC/NCIC Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to obtain CCEO certification within 12 months of hire.
• Ability to obtain Stormwater Inspector certification within 12 months of hire.
Senior Code Enforcement Officer/Stormwater Inspector
• Five years of increasingly responsible code enforcement or related experience.

Working Conditions
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to weather, odors, uneven terrain, and other environmental conditions. Duties require interaction with City staff, contractors, residents, and the public. This position may require evenings, weekends, and occasional work beyond scheduled hours. Field equipment and vehicles may be used regularly.
