About this role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team on a 12–14 month contract position to provide maternity leave coverage.

NATURE & SCOPE OF POSITION

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Senior Accountant, FP&A will be responsible for supporting key accounting, financial reporting, rebate management, fixed asset accounting, month-end closing, budgeting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), and management reporting activities. The role will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate financial information, effective controls, and timely reporting.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Rebate Management – Customers and Vendors

• Manage the end-to-end accounting and administration of customer and vendor rebate programs.

• Review rebate agreements, contracts, and supporting documentation to understand applicable rates, thresholds, volume requirements, and payment terms.

• Calculate and record customer and vendor rebates accurately and in accordance with contractual terms and accounting policies.

• Maintain detailed rebate schedules and supporting reconciliations.

• Monitor sales and purchase volumes against rebate thresholds and identify potential rebate accruals or claims.

• Prepare monthly rebate accruals, adjustments, and true-ups as part of the month-end closing process.

• Reconcile rebate receivables/payables and investigate variances or discrepancies.

• Coordinate with Sales, Procurement, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and vendors/customers to resolve rebate-related issues.

• Track rebate claims, credits, settlements, and outstanding balances to ensure timely recovery or payment.

• Ensure appropriate documentation and audit trails are maintained for all rebate transactions.

• Identify opportunities to improve rebate processes, controls, and reporting.

Fixed Asset Management

• Maintain accurate records of the company's fixed assets, including additions, disposals, transfers, and adjustments.

• Review capital expenditure requests and support documentation to determine appropriate capitalization.

• Record fixed asset additions and ensure assets are classified correctly according to accounting policies.

• Calculate and record monthly depreciation and amortization.

• Process asset transfers, disposals, write-offs, and impairment-related adjustments as required.

• Reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger on a regular basis.

• Maintain appropriate supporting documentation for fixed asset transactions.

• Support with annual audits and provide schedules and documentation relating to fixed assets.

Month-End Closing Support

• Support the monthly financial close process and ensure assigned activities are completed accurately and within established deadlines.

• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, rebates, reclassifications, and other month-end adjustments.

• Perform account reconciliations and investigate unusual or significant variances.

• Review general ledger accounts for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate classification.

• Assist in preparing reporting packages.

• Coordinate with various departments to obtain required information and ensure timely submission of close-related data.

• Identify process issues or accounting discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.

• Support internal and external audit requirements related to month-end and financial reporting.

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and Budgeting

• Support the preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and business plans.

• Collect and consolidate financial and operational information from various departments and business units.

• Support the FP&A team in building and maintaining planning templates and models.

• Assist in preparing revenue, cost, expense, and profitability forecasts.

• Analyze actual performance against budget and forecast and investigate significant variances.

• Assist with periodic forecast updates and scenario analysis.

• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide insights into trends, risks, and opportunities.

• Support in identifying cost-saving opportunities and improving financial performance.

• Ensure budgeting and forecasting assumptions are properly documented and supported.

• Assist with ad hoc financial analysis requests.

General Finance Team Support

• Provide accounting and financial analysis support to the Finance team as required.

• Assist with ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and special projects.

• Support process improvement initiatives and implementation of financial controls.

• Assist with internal and external audit requests and provide required schedules and documentation.

• Help maintain accurate and complete financial records in accordance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve financial and accounting issues.

• Support the Finance team during annual budgeting, forecasting, year-end closing, and audit activities.

• Perform other finance-related duties and special projects as assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

• University degree in Accounting/Commerce/Business Management/Administration

• CPA Designation or CPA Designation in progress

• Possesses a minimum of 3 years progressive finance experience

• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Must be proficient in written & spoken English

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Solid keyboarding and MS Office skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint required

• Experience with Microsoft Business Central, D365 or Dynamics AX is an asset

WORK EVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY

• The majority of the time will be spent in an office environment

• Employee will comply with all Health and Safety requirements

• A hair net shall be worn at all times in the extrusion area, environmentally controlled rooms and in the warehouse area

• Safety devices, such as glasses and earplugs must be worn as required

Salary Range - $80K - $85K annually

Location: In-person at our Oakville office
