About the GI Lab The Specialty Technician II is an integral member of the GI Endoscopy team, providing technical support for patient procedures while helping ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the GI Lab. Working under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, this position assists with GI procedures, supports scope reprocessing activities, maintains equipment readiness, and collaborates with endoscopists, nurses, anesthesia staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
What You Will Do As a Specialty Technician II, you will provide technical support before, during, and after GI procedures while working closely with physicians, RNs, anesthesia providers, and other members of the procedural team. Key responsibilities include:
• Performs proper high-level disinfection (HLD) and scope reprocessing in accordance with established procedures and manufacturers’ Instructions for Use (IFUs). The current job description specifically identifies competency in HLD techniques for scope reprocessing as a GI Endoscopy responsibility. • Operates and maintains HLD equipment and tests HLD solutions according to manufacturers’ IFUs. • Performs scope cultures as required to help ensure scopes are procedure-ready. • Identifies inoperable or damaged scopes and prepares equipment for servicing. • Coordinates messenger/courier services for scopes requiring repair and completes required repair documentation. • Maintains accurate records and tracking of scopes sent out for repair. • Operates, handles, troubleshoots, and maintains equipment and instruments used within the assigned area; recognizes malfunctions and initiates repairs appropriately. • Maintains an efficient, clean, organized, and compliant scope processing environment and follows infection-prevention and safety practices. • Supports initial and annual scope-processing competencies for GI Specialty Technicians. • Serves as a resource to colleagues and supports orientation and training of new hires, students, and other team members. • Collaborates across the department, shares knowledge and expertise, and responds effectively to operational needs.
• Education: High School Diploma/GED required. • Experience: Minimum one year of equivalent on-the-job training assisting with general endoscopic procedures. • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS) required upon hire; Certified Surgical Technologist is preferred. • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician program preferred.
