Duties and Responsibilities • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast, friendly, and courteous customer service. • Assists customers with product selections, special orders, preparation suggestions, and questions regarding meat and seafood products. • Engages in suggestive selling and promotes products through direct customer interaction. • Oversees the daily operation of the Butcher Block area and helps ensure department standards for service, quality, cleanliness, and presentation are consistently maintained. • Provides direction and support to Butcher Block employees and assists with training associates on department procedures and customer service expectations. • Monitors employee productivity and assists with assigning daily duties to ensure adequate coverage and efficient operations. • Prepares, weighs, wraps, prices, labels, trays, and displays meat, poultry, seafood, and other Butcher Block products. • Fills customer orders accurately and ensures products are prepared according to established specifications and quality standards. • Builds and maintains attractive meat and seafood displays and ensures cases remain clean, organized, properly stocked, and visually appealing. • Rotates products and removes outdated, damaged, or spoiled merchandise. • Ensures proper code dating, labeling, packaging, weighing, and product rotation procedures are followed. • Monitors product temperatures throughout preparation, display, and storage and follows established food safety requirements. • Maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of the Butcher Block, display cases, preparation areas, coolers, equipment, utensils, and surrounding work areas. • Assists with controlling inventory to maintain adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness. • Stocks and rotates products and helps maintain an organized meat cooler and storage areas. • Helps control shrink, waste, and department costs through proper product handling, preparation, storage, and rotation. • Assists with receiving merchandise, checking product quality, identifying shortages, and properly storing incoming products. • Assists with promotional and seasonal displays and ensures advertised products are properly displayed and available for customers. • Understands and follows opening and closing procedures for the Butcher Block area. • Ensures associates follow applicable sanitation, safety, food handling, and company policies and procedures. • Safely operates department equipment and tools, including scales, wrapping equipment, knives, safety cutters, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other equipment required for the position. • Performs all duties with honesty and integrity and in accordance with company policies and procedures. • Performs other duties as assigned to support the Meat Department and overall store operations. Skills and Qualifications • Strong customer service and communication skills. • Working knowledge of meat and seafood products, product handling, preparation, and merchandising. • Ability to provide direction, training, and support to department employees. • Ability to maintain department standards for product quality, freshness, sanitation, and presentation. • Basic math, weighing, pricing, and inventory skills. • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple responsibilities. • Ability to safely operate equipment and tools used within the Meat and Butcher Block departments. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. • Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, and repetitive hand and arm movements. • Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull merchandise, supplies, and equipment as required. • Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments and around varying temperatures. • Ability to safely handle knives, wrapping equipment, scales, and other department tools. • Must be able to perform the physical functions necessary for stocking, preparing, displaying, and handling meat and seafood products.
