Position Summary
The Service Operations Assistant supports the daily operation of the front end by providing excellent customer service, assisting associates, and helping maintain efficient checkout and service desk operations. This position works closely with front-end leadership to ensure customers receive friendly, accurate, and timely service while supporting cash-handling, operational, safety, and loss-prevention procedures. Key Responsibilities • Provide friendly, courteous, and professional service to customers. • Assist with daily front-end operations, including checkout lanes and customer service areas. • Support cashiers, courtesy clerks, and other front-end associates with questions and operational needs. • Monitor customer traffic and assist with opening additional checkout lanes when necessary. • Assist customers with questions, refunds, exchanges, product locations, and other service needs. • Help resolve customer concerns professionally and involve store leadership when appropriate. • Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently. • Assist with cash-handling procedures and maintain accurate register accountability. • Follow established procedures for refunds, voids, coupons, discounts, and other transactions. • Assist with preparing, distributing, collecting, and securing register tills as assigned. • Support opening and closing procedures for the front end and customer service areas. • Monitor checkout lanes and service areas to ensure they remain clean, organized, and properly supplied. • Assist with coordinating associate breaks, assignments, and coverage as directed by management. • Support associates during periods of high customer traffic and changing business needs. • Assist with training new associates on register procedures, customer service expectations, and department standards. • Follow company policies related to cash handling, safety, security, and loss prevention. • Identify and communicate register, equipment, staffing, or operational concerns to department leadership. • Maintain confidentiality when handling customer, associate, and financial information. • Perform cashier, customer service, and other front-end duties as needed. • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned based on business needs. Customer Service Responsibilities • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner. • Respond promptly to customer questions and requests for assistance. • Help create a positive checkout experience through efficient and attentive service. • Handle customer concerns calmly and respectfully. • Maintain awareness of front-end conditions and respond quickly when additional customer assistance is needed. • Promote a customer-first environment throughout the front end. Qualifications • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities. • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. • Ability to handle cash and financial transactions responsibly. • Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced retail environment. • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. • Ability to learn and follow register, cash-handling, and front-end operating procedures. • Ability to remain professional when handling challenging customer situations. • Dependable attendance and punctuality. • Previous retail, cashier, or customer service experience is preferred. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. • Ability to bend, reach, lift, carry, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift. • Ability to safely move merchandise, supplies, carts, and other items as required. • Ability to perform register and customer-service-related tasks for extended periods. Work Environment The Service Operations Assistant works primarily in the front-end and customer service areas of the store and interacts frequently with customers, associates, department leaders, and store management. The position requires balancing customer service, register operations, cash-handling responsibilities, associate support, and other daily front-end operational needs.
