Job Requirements Under the direction of professional nursing staff, the Patient Care Technician II provides direct patient care including taking vital signs, checking surgical dressings, assisting with activities of daily living, performing blood draws, and collecting specimen samples. This role involves observing and communicating patient status to identify needs and deliver appropriate care, while collaborating as part of the interdisciplinary patient care team. Responsibilities include managing patient testing and care based on clinical findings, assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges, promoting patient safety, maintaining patient environments, providing wound and post-mortem care, supporting catheter and enteral feeding care, performing EKGs and blood glucose monitoring, responding to patient alarms, mentoring other technicians, and adhering to safety protocols to optimize patient outcomes and ensure efficient care delivery.
Work Experience Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and hold current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA), along with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. One year of prior experience is preferred. The role requires strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork, and the capacity to prioritize tasks and perform multiple duties under stress. Candidates should be proficient in using computer systems, demonstrate proper techniques for obtaining and documenting accurate blood glucose results, and perform delegated nursing tasks with sensitivity to the diverse needs of patients. Additionally, they must exhibit knowledge and accountability in aseptic techniques and related procedures.
