About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support learning across a range of subjects and year groups. You will work with individual students and small groups, help to create a focused learning environment, and contribute to the wider pastoral and inclusion work of the school.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
To provide speech and language interventionsTo provide in-class support for identified individual students or small groups of students (e.g. 4-5 students), including specialist subject support as appropriateUnder the direction of the class teacher, to assist in the management of the whole class through the overt modelling of effective behaviour management techniquesUnder the direction of a class teacher, SENCO, to develop and lead small group work for identified students supporting their ability to manage the symptoms of their SEMH, including anxiety as well as to contribute to the appropriate paperwork for these groupsTo assist in the production of teaching and learning materials for students, including differentiating the materialsTo provide after school support for identified students as requiredTo provide regular feedback to the class teacher and to the SENDCo or the relevant line managerTo provide support for students with social, emotional and mental health difficultiesTo use appropriate systems for recording the progress of students with learning difficulties We're Looking For Someone Who:
Holds at least 5 GCSE’s or equivalent, which must include at least a Grade C/4 in Maths and EnglishCompleted Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Teaching, Assistance or an equivalent qualification directly relevant to classroom learning support, child development, SEND or education; or recent, substantial experience directly supporting children or young people’s learning in a school, college or specialist educational settingEvidence of personal commitment to CPDSuccessful professional or voluntary experience working directly with children or young peopleBasic understanding of child development and learningThe ability to work constructively as part of a team, follow line management structures and understand classroom roles and your own position within those responsibilitiesThe ability to take the initiative to support students presenting with a range of SENDAbility to work flexibly, contribute observations and ideas to individual support plans, and implement agreed strategies that promote resilience and independenceTo show commitment to the SEND team to ensure that it continues to develop strength and expertise across the broad areas of SENDTo be able to form empathetic relationships with young people and be able to communicate their needs effectively to other professionalsCommitment to high standards and expectationsExperience of working with children who present with anxiety and other social, emotional and mental health difficultiesExcellent communication with children and parents/carers.Good behaviour managementAble to adapt activities to suit the childPossess strong interpersonal skillsBe dependable, able to follow instruction and respond to management directionsHave a willingness to extend skills through appropriate trainingHave good working ICT KnowledgeCommitted to the safeguarding of childrenWhy join Barnwood Park School and Greenshaw Learning Trust?
