Permanent Zero-Hours Contract

Selly Oak Nursery School is looking for a warm, enthusiastic and reliable Playworker to join our staff team on a permanent casual basis.
This is a zero-hours contract, meaning that there are no guaranteed weekly hours. However, the successful candidate will become a valued member of our staff team and will be offered work when additional staffing is required, for example to cover staff absence, training or other periods of additional need within the nursery.
We are particularly interested in finding someone who can offer a good degree of flexibility and who may sometimes be available to work at relatively short notice.
About the role
Working alongside our experienced nursery team, you will help to provide high-quality care, education and support for children aged 2-4 years.
The role may include:
Supporting children’s learning through play and our child-centred Early Years curriculumWorking with individuals and small groups of childrenSupporting children with additional needsHelping children with their personal care and developing independenceSupporting children during mealtimes and throughout the nursery dayHelping to maintain a stimulating, welcoming and safe learning environmentWorking collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants and other members of the nursery teamFollowing the school’s safeguarding, health and safety and other relevant policies and proceduresWe are looking for someone who:
Genuinely enjoys working with young childrenIs kind, patient and responsive to children’s individual needsUnderstands the importance of play in young children’s learning and developmentIs reliable, flexible and able to work as part of a close-knit teamHas high expectations for all childrenIs willing to support children with a wide range of needs, including personal care where requiredUnderstands the importance of safeguarding and maintaining professional confidentialityIs able to respond positively to the changing needs of a busy nursery schoolPrevious experience of working with children in an Early Years or school setting would be an advantage. Contract arrangements
This is a permanent zero-hours contract. There is no guarantee of a minimum number of hours and the amount of work available will vary according to the needs of the school. When cover is required, the school will contact casual staff to offer available work.
