Job Description: Senior Formulations Specialist, Pet - Kennesaw, GANATURE & SCOPE The Senior Pet Formulation Scientist will be responsible for development of all pet product formulas at Kennesaw and Forsyth. This individual will establish the pet segment innovation, product development and manufacturing support for pet products in NA. They will lead all functions of product development including, but not limited to: collaborative ideation and rationalization with sales and customers, technical customer support, internal setup of raw materials and finished goods, tracking and reporting of KPI metrics, support for onboarding and training of new formulation team members, and provide directional input into departmental goals and actions. The scope ranges from the development and setup of formulation concepts, recipes, and specifications to providing guidance to junior formulators and expertise as a CD&D leader. The Senior Pet Formulation Scientist will work closely with the PAW Director of CD&D to support the Global Pet & Animal Wellbeing business. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Ensure overall compliance and development of all safety procedures, cGMPs, and SOPs related to each job task including, but not limited to: proper documentation, product development, sampling/handling, reporting, and training • Serve as primary consultative support to both customer and sales team for formulation ideation, technical support, product development, formulation improvement, and innovation • Proactively promote growth of colleagues including, but not limited to CD&D team members via coaching, mentoring and exposure to greater technical/customer/sales support opportunities • Provide mentorship and guidance for CD&D colleagues to establish pet and PAW best practices, ingredient portfolios and formulation development • Serve as pet technical expert and reviewer for product specifications • Create formulations, production recipes and formal quotations based upon customer requirements that achieve business targets (cost management, process/product management, functionality, in-line with company vision, customer vision, price point, innovation, etc.) • Develop and deliver customer-friendly support material to validate formulation concepts • Review existing and new recipes/specifications for accuracy, feasibility, and ease of manufacture • Lead re-formulation and re-development efforts for existing products that present unexpected manufacturability problems or require formulation-based improvements and/or corrections • Proactively lead long-term CD&D projects ensuring completion in target timelines by delegating tasks as needed • Manage the continuous improvement, maintenance, and entry of electronic price quotes, opportunity records, templates, and associated logs • Assist with new product implementation and other CD&D-related process improvements • Participates in and supports sales and new employee training, including writing, presenting, and/or other training support • Provide guidance to procurement colleagues for new ingredient sourcing targets • Create and manage the implementation of internal specifications for finished goods based upon product quotes and customer expectations • Develop improvement programs for CD&D, including, but not limited to the organization of existing data, management, modification of processes, and creation of tools to improve efficiencies • Perform horizon scanning to maintain technical expertise in industry developments and trends • Support the CD&D Director PAW in KPI data collection, analysis, and reporting including but not limited to Pricing Turnaround Time (TAT), On Time Performance (OTP), and First Time Right (FTR) Education: • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Food Chemistry, or other natural sciences field
: Experience:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in companion animal product development and formulations or equivalent • Working knowledge of AAFCO and NASC regulatory guidelines is required • Experience formulating pet health supplements and working with biotics is beneficial Specific Skills: • Proven ability to work independently and lead cross-functional collaborations • Experience using formulation software • Superior analytical, multi-tasking, and time-management skills • Detailed planning and organizational skills • High level written and verbal communication capabilities • Very strong computer skills, including all Microsoft Office programs, and data tracking, manipulation, and presentation • Strong analytical skills including the ability to quickly learn new tasks/processes and identify areas for improvement • Advanced problem solving and reasoning skills; both mathematics and physics-based problem solving, along with interpersonal/interdepartmental problem solving Specific Characteristics: • Owners mindset with evidence of an entrepreneurial approach • Agile mindset with the ability to adapt to changing requirements and tasks • Willingness to identify areas of need and address them autonomously with minimal input from management • Proactive, quick learner who is eager to take on new and challenging responsibilities, often through their own initiatives • Highly effective communicator; skilled in presenting technical information to a wide variety of audiences • Results driven, strong work ethic Other Requirements: • Valid driver license • Occasionally lift heavy objects, up to 50 lbs. • Occasional domestic travel Before applying for an exempt, non-exempt or hourly job opportunity, you are expected to initiate a discussion and share your intentions with your supervisor. * If you’ve been in your current position for more than 18 months, supervisor approval is not required. * If you’ve been in your current position for less than 18 months, verbal supervisor approval is required. : Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
