Help shape the storage infrastructure that enables researchers across the University to work securely and effectively with large-scale, data-intensive computing.
As Research Computing Storage Administrator, you will bring specialist storage and Linux expertise to a new University-wide research computing service spanning HPC, HTC, research data and emerging AI platforms, with the opportunity to influence how its storage services develop.
Location: Central Oxford / Begbroke Science Park Salary: £39,424–£47,779 per annum Contract: Full Time, Fixed Term until 31 July 2029, with the expectation of extension, subject to funding

Within IT Services and the Digital Governance Unit, Oxford Research Computing (OxRC) is being established to bring together research computing infrastructure and expertise from across the University. It supports researchers through High-Performance Computing (HPC), High-Throughput Computing (HTC), research data services and emerging artificial intelligence (AI) platforms.

About the Role
You will help develop, maintain and integrate the storage services underpinning the University’s evolving research computing environment. This includes supporting established HPC and HTC clusters alongside the developing Trusted Research Environment and Research File Service.
Working with specialists across OxRC, information security, information governance and research teams, you will tackle complex storage challenges across technologies including parallel filesystems, Ceph-based storage, Linux, high-speed networking and data movement. You will also contribute to controlled dataflows, including Globus-based services, and support secure and compliant research data services.
Joining OxRC at this formative stage offers significant scope to take ownership, apply your technical judgement and influence how resilient, scalable storage capabilities are developed for data-intensive research and emerging AI workloads.

About You
You will bring:
A relevant degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in research computing. Extensive experience managing large-scale storage platforms and parallel filesystems such as Scale/GPFS, Lustre or WEKA. Experience with storage platforms such as NetApp ONTAP, Ceph or CephFS. Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, including Python, Bash or similar scripting. Familiarity with high-speed Ethernet and NVIDIA InfiniBand technologies. Knowledge of storage protocols including NFS, SMB and S3. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
