Band 4, £28,392 - £31,157 per annum
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Bowel Cancer Screening centre as a Programme Administrator, supporting the early diagnosis and prevention of cancer across the county.
The programme works across Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MKUH) and Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT). This post will be based at Milton Keynes University Hospital, providing on-site administrative support for the programme. This will include, but is not limited to, booking patients onto hospital systems, preparing letters and packs for patients, liaising with MKUH Endoscopy, and working alongside clinical staff. There is an expectation that the successful post-holder will be able to travel to MKUH and BHT sites as required.
The successful candidate will be an experienced administrator, able to handle the demands of a busy NHS service. They will be self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as in a team of clinical and non-clinical staff. Strong communication skills and a commitment to providing quality patient care and experience are essential.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be accountable for providing an administrative service to support the effective delivery of the programme. A significant proportion of the role involves data input and adherence to administrative processes to ensure the smooth running of the programme.

Be responsible for setting up and preparing packs for positive assessment clinics on both the Bowel Cancer Screening System (BCSS) and local systems (eCARE/ CareFlow). Schedule assessment clinics across all sites. Respond to fluctuations in demand. Prepare packs for Endoscopy booking patients and providing the details to Endoscopy in a timely manner. Physically taking and/ or scanning the packs to the unit. Play a key role in co-ordinating patient appointments (including on the BCSS), ensuring referral pathways are adhered to. To update and maintain patient notes. Ensure datasets are complete and patients are followed up in a timely manner, flagging up any queries/ concerns with relevant staff members. Check the BCSS regularly through the day for new appointments to action and batch letters /patient questionnaires to be printed and posted. Be responsible for BCSP surveillance/ further procedures, liaising and booking appointments with patients across the county. Ensure the completion of patient pathways by arranging further procedures/ follow ups, as required, following patients through to discharge. To organise, co-ordinate, attend and minute all BCSP meetings- both internal and external. To provide secretarial support to the BCSP team, word processing, filling, photocopying and composing letters/ documents.

Person Specification
Qualifications and knowledge Essential
Minimum of 2 GCSE (or equivalent) at pass level including English and Maths. Foundation degree or equivalent experience Comprehensive keyboard and computer skills. Excellent excel, word and Power Point skills. Knowledge of hospital databases (CareFlow/eCARE). High standard of written English.
Desirable
Knowledge of Bowel Cancer Screening System (BCSS).
Experience Essential
Previous clerical/ office experience Customer service experience. Experience in undertaking a range of secretarial duties. Ability to present high quality, well- presented letters/ documents for approval/ amendment.
Desirable
Experience of working in a similar admin based, health care environment. Familiar with Endoscopy terminology. Knowledge of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Health promotion experience. Organizing, attending and taking minutes/ notes at meetings.

Ability to deal with (potentially) distressed patients in a sympathetic, understanding manner. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
