Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an exciting and challenging full-time post at The Limes Medical Centre in Narborough for a Paramedic or Physician Assistant, preferably with previous Primary Care experience.
The post involves
Working four days per week 8am to 6pm.
Our Paramedics and PAs work in a close clinical team with our GPs and are based in our new extension which serves as our On the Day unit.
We see urgent and non-urgent problems within this unit.
Each day there is an allocated team of 2 GPs and 3 or 4 PAs/Paramedics for the On the Day service.
We work, together as a team, working off a shared list of patients.
Each PA and Paramedic is supervised by one of the GPs working in the unit who will always be available close by for any urgent issues and who will debrief every patient at the end of the session.
You will also have regular joint surgeries with a GP and we run weekly teaching for our Paramedical clinicians.
You will be well supported.
Main duties of the job
The Limes Medical Centre is a well-regarded surgery with a very stable and happy partnership. Our GPs normally retire rather than resign. We are all like-minded in our approach to patient care, placing great value on working hard for our patients and providing them with empathic, high-quality care. We have long seen the benefit of a well-supported team of Paramedics and PAs, with our first PAs being employed in early 2020. The patient feedback from the service is excellent. It is a practice where patients often thank you for their care and are grateful to be registered with us.
About us
Our 14,500 patients have access to a team of 5 Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, a team of 5 Paramedics and PAs, 2 Pharmacists, a full Nursing Team and 4 First Contact Physiotherapists. The Practice is very well organised with an excellent management and administrative team. We also have great and stable team of receptionists. The Limes is along-standing training practice for both GP Specialist Trainees and Medical Students. We have excellent QOF results.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Professional registration Registered Paramedic with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Evidence of maintaining professional registration and continuing professional development (CPD). Qualifications BSc/degree or equivalent qualification in Paramedic Science. Appropriate post-registration education relevant to primary care, such as minor illness/injury, clinical assessment or prescribing, where required by the role. Clinical experience Significant experience working as a paramedic in a clinical environment. Experience undertaking autonomous clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of patients. Ability to recognise and manage acutely unwell or deteriorating patients and arrange appropriate escalation. Experience managing a broad range of presentations across different age groups. Primary care skills Ability to conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, including history taking and physical examination. Ability to formulate differential diagnoses and develop appropriate management plans. Understanding of primary care pathways, referral processes and multidisciplinary working. Ability to identify patients requiring urgent or emergency care. Communication and interpersonal skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives and carers, including when discussing sensitive or complex issues. Ability to work effectively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrates empathy, professionalism and a patient-centred approach. Clinical judgement and decision-making Able to work independently while recognising the limits of own competence. Demonstrates sound clinical reasoning and risk assessment. Able to make safe, evidence-based decisions in situations where information may be incomplete. Desirable
Primary care experience Previous experience working within a GP practice, Primary Care Network (PCN), Urgent Treatment Centre or other primary care setting. Experience managing same-day and routine primary care presentations. Understanding of referral pathways and community services. Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary primary care team.
