About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within Haslington Surgery.

The Nurse will work with a small team of one other Nurse, a Lead Nurse, and a General Practice Assistant, as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of the Practice.

The Practice has a commitment to excellent patient care, quality improvement and learning. It is expected that all members of our clinical team are actively committed to supporting these aims and participate in relevant activities when appropriate.

The vacancy is a permanent part time role.

17 hours/ week.

Working hours: Monday 8:30 - 17:30 and Weds 8:30 - 17:30

Main duties of the job

Key tasks of the Practice Nurse:

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by the Lead Nurse and GP Partners.

Tasks are varied and may include: Cytology, Wound care / ulcer care/Doppler, removal of Sutures, New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis, Travel Clinic, ECGs, Asthma/Peak Flow Readings, Venepuncture, Hypertension Management, Routine immunizations/Childhood immunisations, Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician, Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings, Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs.

Following agreed clinical protocols.

Other tasks may also include: Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs, Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required, Participation in administrative systems in the Practice.

At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records

A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks

Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.

On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits

Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

About us

Haslington Surgery is a two Partner practice, located in a small village in Cheshire. We have a clinical team including Salaried GPs, four Nurses, one GPA, two Care Coordinators, Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician. This is supported by a Practice Manager working with a small administration and reception team. We form part of the local SMASH PCN group of Surgeries, working together to focus on local patient care and to deliver local services.

Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate Other tasks will include Clean and sterilise equipment using autoclave monitoring autoclave Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician. Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms Maintain stock of waiting room leaflets as instructed by partners and Practice Manager Ordering of Health Promotion Literature Ordering of stock from the District Hospital Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels Participation in administrative systems in the Practice At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required. Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

-Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council) -Has evidence of working at the relevant level of practice as described in the Primary Care and General Practice Nursing Career and Core Capabilities Framework -Broad knowledge of general practice and experience of working as a Practice or Community Nurse -Experience with chronic disease management -Experience of working autonomously -Experience of infection prevention and control measures -Experience of managing elderly and housebound patients -Experience of Practice Nurse skills including wound care, ECG, venepuncture, immunisations, new patient medicals and womans health (cervical cytology, contraception etc.) -Request pathology tests and process the results, advising patients accordingly -Understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice -Ability to promote best practice regarding nursing matters -Ability to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to GPs -Good clinical system IT knowledge and an ability to record accurate clinical notes -Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively with people by telephone, email and face to face -Understanding of safeguarding adults and children -Understanding and knowledge of healthcare provision in GP surgeries, QOF and enhanced service -Effectively able to communicate and understand the needs of the patient -Effective time management (planning and organising) -Ability to follow legal, ethical and professional policies/local policies/procedures and codes of conduct -Understand the requirement for PGDs and associated policy

Desirable

-Mentor or teaching qualification -Family planning qualification -Experience of quality initiatives, i.e., benchmarking -An appreciation of the NHS landscape including the relationship between individual organisations, PCNs and the commissioners -Broad knowledge of clinical governance -Knowledge of public health issues in the local area -Awareness of issues within the wider health arena and knowledge of health promotion strategies -Knowledge of national standards that inform general practice (NSF NICE guidelines) -Demonstrate personal accountability, emotional resilience and work well under pressure

Experience Essential
