Legislative Support
Job Posting: Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for one (1) casual/part-time Legislative Support position to provide minute support for meetings of Committees of Council on an as required basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Review agenda packages and prepare working notes in advance of meetings; • Attend meetings and take accurate and comprehensive minutes; • Prepare and finalize meeting minutes in the format and to the standards established by the Office of the Municipal Clerk, ensuring competition within two (2) business days of the meeting. Other Related Duties: • Legislative Supports will also fulfill such confidential legislative duties as required including but not limited to confidential “in camera” sessions of Committees, Community & Regional Council. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: • Completion of grade 12 certificate or equivalent; • Two (2) years of related formal training such as: legal administration or paralegal, non-profit sector management, or other related administrative post-secondary training; • Working knowledge of HRM’s Council processes (or equivalent government or non-profit sector agencies) and at least 1 year of experience in a setting such as an administrative, non-profit sector. Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities: • Excellent listening, attention to detail and written skills; • Working knowledge of HRM Administrative Order One, Respecting the Procedures of the Council; • Ability to work effectively under strict time frames/deadlines; • Ability to work flexible hours; • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Outlook, virtual meeting platforms (e.g. Microsoft Teams and Zoom), email systems, and internet-based tools to support meeting administration and communication; • Ability to record discussions of a technical nature with high accuracy and considerable speed which requires above average listening skills; • Ability to maintain objectivity and confidentiality during discussions of issues, often of a controversial and/or sensitive nature. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

WORK STATUS: Casual, part-time, term position.
HOURS OF WORK: Meeting dates and times vary Monday through Friday between 9 am and 10 pm depending on operational needs. Flexibility will be required as needed to provide support to Committee meetings given meeting duration may extend beyond scheduled end times, with possible cancellation on short notice.
SALARY: Flat rate fee of $225 per meeting.
WORK LOCATION: City Hall, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax, NS.
