Under general directions with limited review, this position is responsible for applying innovative approaches to resolving unusual or complex engineering problems in the development of Army unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), with a focus on data modeling, software architecture, design, and requirements management for Ground Command and Control (C2) software. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of overall objectives and reviewed largely at completion. Initiates the planning of engineering projects and develops innovative designs or modifications in order to meet project goals. Independently performs difficult/complex engineering work with instructions as to the general expected results. Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff, makes technical presentations, and may represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single component projects. Provides direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide Systems Engineering support across various programs as needed, which may include Avionics, Aerospace, Airborne Payloads, Command and Control Systems, training systems, throughout the design, development, integration, and test phases of the product life-cycle. • Use a SysML tool, like Cameo, to produce system models which include developing the standard 9 diagrams of activity, block definition, internal block, package, parametric, requirement, sequence, state machine and use cases. • Collaborate with program and all levels of engineering to develop SysML diagrams and artifacts in an MBSE environment, capture and characterize requirements, conduct parametric analysis, and create test plans and procedures including environmental testing. • Support the development of system requirements and specifications, interface control documents (ICD), requirements verification traceability matrix (RVTM), and other system engineering artifacts. • Perform integration and test activities such as developing verification test plans, procedures, and test reports, as well as preparing and conducting the actual verification tests. • Use the requirements management tool DOORS/JAMA to perform requirements development, analysis, and decomposition across system, segment, subsystem, and assembly levels. • May support multiple integrated product teams (IPT) through system analysis, assembly, integration, and testing. • Support the preparation and execution of program milestone reviews such as system requirements review (SRR), system functional review (SFR), preliminary & critical design review (PDR, CDR), test readiness review (TRR), and customer acceptance review (AR). • Develop systems engineering documentation, artifacts, and contract deliverables with oversight from Project Engineer, Chief Engineer, and Program Manager • Support requirement verification and documentation using MBSE models and/or DOORS/JAMA to link requirements and model elements to test plans, procedures, test results/reports, and other artifacts. • Interface with customers during program shaping, ConOps development, and requirements derivation activities. • Provide direction and/or feedback to design or technical staff. • Devise new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems. • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information. • Perform other duties as assigned. • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Job Qualifications: • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education. • Demonstrates an technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones. • Open architecture, software engineering, software development, and/or UAS command and control experience is a plus. • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment. • Must demonstrate flexibility to support various technology areas within the systems engineering organization and be comfortable rotating between programs and projects based on business needs. • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals. • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems. • Familiarity with digital engineering and toolsets including SysML-based enterprise and performance evaluation tools. • Familiarity with systems engineering plans and processes including Risk Management, Change Management, and Verification Management preferred. • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment. Able to work extended hours as required. • Ability to obtain a maintain a DoD secret security clearance is required. Desired Experience: • Experience working with MagicDraw, DOORS, Jama, Confluence, Teams and JIRA. • Has Avionics, Aerospace or Command and Control experience. • Has hands on integration experience. • Has experience developing requirements , procedures, and reports. • Previous experience working with the Department of Defense. • Model Based Systems Engineering • Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) • Systems Integration • Software Architecture
