Elk Grove Village, Illinois, (pop. 33,127), a strategically located, progressive community that is home to the largest consolidated business park in North America, is seeking a dynamic, detailed and skills-oriented candidate for the position of Benefits Technician in the Office of Human Resources. Elk Grove Village is located in Cook and DuPage Counties adjacent to O’Hare International Airport and is home to approximately 3,600 businesses, located in its 5.4 square mile Business Park.

The Office of Human Resources (HR) is a division of the Village Manager’s Office. Staff within HR are the stewards of the Village’s greatest strategic asset and are responsible for championing a unified and dedicated workforce. Areas of focus for the Office of Human Resources include strategic talent management; onboarding and professional development; compensation and benefits administration; employee recognition and engagement; personnel records and data integrity; employee and labor relations; and regulatory compliance and policy implementation.

The Benefits Technician provides administrative and technical support for the Village’s employee and retiree benefits programs, risk management activities, and related Human Resources functions. The position works closely with the Benefits/Risk Coordinator and Human Resources Director to process benefits transactions, maintain confidential records, assist employees and retirees, and support leave and workers’ compensation administration. The position requires accuracy, confidentiality, responsiveness, and the ability to work independently on assigned projects and routine matters while providing exceptional customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assists with the administration of employee and retiree benefit programs, including processing enrollments, qualifying life events, benefit changes, terminations, and retiree benefit transactions.

• Processes and maintains accurate benefit records and transactions in the Village’s HRIS, payroll system, benefit vendor systems, and other applicable databases.

• Provides customer service and routine guidance to employees, retirees, and eligible dependents regarding benefit eligibility, enrollment, required documentation, and administrative processes.

• Supports new employee onboarding and annual Open Enrollment, including preparing materials, conducting enrollment appointments, processing elections, and verifying enrollment information.

• Assists with benefit audits, reconciliations, and financial administration, including reviewing enrollment information, resolving discrepancies, processing invoices, and verifying benefit deductions and premiums.

• Supports leave and workers’ compensation administration by preparing documentation, maintaining confidential records, tracking information, and coordinating routine communications.

• Prepares reports, correspondence, spreadsheets, forms, and other materials and assists with information audits, research, projects, and the development or improvement of Human Resources processes and procedures.

• Provides general administrative and operational support to the Human Resources Division, including maintaining records, processing invoices and purchase orders, responding to inquiries, preparing documents and mailings, and performing other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING: A Bachelor's Degree required, as well as two years of experience in an office environment, including computer experience. Background in Benefits, Human Resources and/or Risk Management is highly desirable. Proficiency in software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing is required.

HIRING RANGE AND SALARY: The hiring range for this position will be $68,353-$76,707, depending on education, experience and training, with a total salary range of $68,353 - $92,277.

HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week*

*This is a non-exempt, full-time, in office position working Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
