Your future role Take on a new challenge and apply your electrical and electronics expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside skilled and collaborative teammates. You'll play a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of modern Electric Multiple Units by providing technical support, fault diagnosis, and repair expertise. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (central systems support, depot teams, train care points), assist with skills development within depots, and contribute to the validation of maintenance schedules and technical instructions, and much more. We’ll look to you for: Providing diagnostic and repairs on electronics such as power supplies, rectifying circuits, and battery charging circuits to board level. Utilising extensive knowledge of three-phase, single-phase, and DC power systems and control systems. Positioning fault data into a shared drive facility for effective communication and analysis. Carrying out fault finding and investigating intermittent faults on vehicles either on depot or in service. Conducting testing and re-commissioning activities on vehicles and trains in accordance with pre-written test and commissioning procedures. Assisting in component change-outs and failure reporting for central systems support and reliability growth teams. Supporting skills development within depots and train care points to foster continuous learning and improvement. Providing on-train fault diagnosis and rectification for units in service to ensure operational efficiency. Investigating technical problems as instructed by the central systems support team to drive problem resolution. Gathering required data downloads on critical performance systems at all Train Care Centers (TCCs). All about you We value passion and attitude over experience. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role: Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or equivalent qualification (e.g., NVQ Engineering Level 3 in Electrical and Electronics). Experience or understanding of fault finding and diagnosing issues on mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, particularly in the context of modern Electric Multiple Units. Knowledge of AC and DC motors, inverters, converters, compressors, air systems, and 3-phase, single-phase, and DC power systems. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, computer-based systems, and IT skills, including the use of office packages, email, and intranet. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively with team members and other stakeholders. Practical experience in testing, commissioning, and functional validation of train-borne systems. Ability to investigate and resolve intermittent faults on vehicles, both on depot and in service. Strong attention to detail and ability to validate technical documentation, maintenance schedules, and procedural amendments. Resilience and adaptability to work in dynamic environments, including depots, train care points, and outstations. Leadership and mentorship skills to assist in skills development within teams.
